Has anyone here been an addict then quit?

It doesn't matter what you were addicted to, booze, drugs, cigarettes, over eating, etc.

When you finally quit, how did you do it? Were you like the vast majority of people who had a near life crisis and you realized that unless you changed your way that you would either die or be seriously fucked up for the rest of your shortened life? Were you like most people and simply summoned up internal willpower and just stop, maybe with just a little moral incentive and cheering from those who want to see you succeed, or did you do it by spending tons of money on gimmicks to "ease the pain"?

Now, what make you think that trying to spend our way out of our addiction to spending is going to be any different?
 
The only way this government will get over its addiction is to have its supply ripped from them.
 
True, but then again, is that really quitting? And for the record, I'm nrabroad
just talking about government, but Americans (and for that matter, a large percentage of humans) in general.
