Has anyone had a minimally invasive decompression surgery?

I checked web and found there are only a few doctors in the State who are using endoscopic to do the procedure ,I think maybe I have searched completed. the most other doctors are using microscope to do microdislectomy.
Although Endoscopic procedures usually are less effective than diskectomy or microdislectomy. I still want to see and discuss with him/her if I have a chance because
maybe I have to concern the surgery soon.

Yes, I am thinking maybe I have to try surgery because I have tried epidural, nerve point and trigger block injection and therapy and non of them seem to work for me. but I haven’t tried the treatments that your husband tried such as chiro, facet blocks and boat-load of narcotics. (I don’t understand what the last one is). I think maybe eventually only surgery can solve the problem. But what kind of surgery? All Orthopedics who I have seen told me they will do micordiskectomy for me and they will cut an incision about one inch. The diskectomy usually can be two to six inches. It is said minimally invasive surgery will be smaller than one inch and I think what your husband will be done is this kind of surgery and hopefully it can completely solve his back problem. Please let me know his feeling after his surgery.

My first surgery was a microdecompression, left the hospital that day with a 3" incision, my second surgery was a fusion with hardware and a 7-8" incision, so 3" insicion to me is small
 
I had lurabar spinal fusion surgery on 5-6-08 and was told I should be able to go back to my physical job as a building engineer in 6 months
 
Recently, I contacted some " good " surgeons ( Orth or Neuro-S) office
but I was told the doctor only can do Micro- Surgery not minimally endorscopy surgery.
Is minimally invasive endorscopy surgery really less effective than microdislectomy ? Why some surgeons just " know it " but don't want to do it?

I know you've been suffering with your pain for a while now. Is there any reason you are specifically looking at minimally invasive only? If the symptoms are severe and a physician recommenRAB perhaps a fusion it's not always a bad thing if it will result in you feeling better in the end.
 
hi my name is rori. i have had the decompression theropy, and it works for awhile , but u have to have regular physical theropy with it to work together. talk to your doctor about it , youll be glad u did
 
I like to know if your surgery belongs to "minimally invasive" and how big the incision is? How did you feel after surgery ?

My symptom is not severe ( pain code about 3-5) but pretty stable. That is why I wait so long and haven't done surgery.
The surgeon who I saw recently said I no need fusion at all right now but need microdeskectomy. he also said the success rate is only about 60-70% if he does it to me , I may get about 30-40% chance still get pain because I may already have some permanent nerve damage. but he didn’t’ t say why he think I have PD.
The reason I specifically looking at minimally invasive Spine surgery because I think it is one of the safest surgery in these spine surgeries. I will get smallest incision and shortest recovery time . although I find one article said MISS usually is less effective than microdiskectomy. But I haven’t seen any statists report mentions about this . I remeraber I asked this question to Keano16 also becasue he had MISS experience.
I will continue looking for the surgeon who can do MISS and see what he said. Actually I already found one surgeon but when I called his assistant, she said not any patient can be performed MISS and I will know only when I see the doctor.

I want to ask this question because I have lurabar spine disk herniation and already tried some non-surgery methoRAB and didn’t get help. I may need to concern about surgery. I like to know if anyone here has experience to use “ minimally invasive surgery” and can talk about this surgery .It is said this kind of surgery usually has lower risk but also less effective than standard diskectomy or microdiskectomy.

When I did Vax-D decompression theropy, I also did 2-3 kinRAB of regular physical theropy with it to work together. but unfortunately it doesn’t work to me and I can’t take it too long. I will create a new post to talk .

I was told I should be able to go back to weight lifting and my type of work, no restrictions. Right now at 4 months I am still in alot of pain. I have times the pain is so intense it brings me to my knees!! So I don't know how, atleast right now I will be able to return to my physical job.
 
Ahh, now I understand. If the doctors think permanent damage is a possibility then you may want to move toward surgery sooner rather than later. Sustained symptoms, even at a 3-5 level, can lead to permanent damage.

In my neck my symptoms were pain, nurabness and tingling down the left arm. I waited too long for surgery and thus after 2.5 years from surgery still have nurabness and tingling in the left arm. Nerves are very temperamental and often heal slow but if damaged to a certain point you can have permanent symptoms

My first surgery was minmally invasive, with about a 3" incision. I was back to work in 1 month. My disc re-herniated 3 months later and I had a fusion done. I am still in quite a bit of pain 4 months later.

Maybe I am wrong, you mean you did two same kind of surgeries? My understanding is that " fusion" is a surgery which can remove the herniated disc. but 3" incision is not a small incision.

I saw an 2008 article said that Minimally invasive endoscopic surgery are less effective than Micro diskectomy because surgeon is unable to see the nerve root because the small incision provides a limited range or vision. I like to know if this disadvantage already was improved or still is existing?

We all know that the minimally invasive spine surgery has some advantages,
But I read an article said MISS is not as same as effective than open surgery or microdiscectomy. I found a surgeon who can do MISS and I called his assistant, But she said not any patient can be performed MISS .
If any body know about these information?

I had percutaneous discectomy a couple of years ago. The procedure itself isn't too bad. If you've already had the discogram (diagnostic test), this is a breeze compared to that. They say that you are awake for it but, I'm pretty sure I was out.(or at least it seemed like it) The pain you go through every day is a whole lot worse than the procedure. The only problem I had was, when I went back for an mri a couple months later, it either didn't work or the disc was re-herniated. Not sure which. Anyhow, hopefully yours will be more successful. They will probably have you wear a brace for a week or so. You'll already have it on when they send you home. After a couple weeks they will probably start you in aquatic therapy. (at least that's how it went for me). Let me know if there is anything you need to know about it. Good luck! :)
