Has anyone ever seen "Old Yeller"??

I know its supposed to be a classic, but I saw it for the first time on BBC2 yesterday. I just wondered exactly what was wrong with Yeller at the end?? Did he have Rabies, thats what it looked like, but it didn't really say. Only that he caught something from the wolf that made animals go mad(and rabies does that).

In the film they said Yeller has Hydrophobia, I just googled it and thats another name for Rabies. So he did have it.

What a very disturbing ending! its bad enough that the dog dies but Its supposed to be a Dinsney family movie! And they give him rabies, and then have his young master shoot him! Im so glad I didn't see this when I was a child!
