Has anyone ever "Rescued" a fish?

I have rescued two now. My betta Andromeda was sick with ick and something else which I can't remember. I saw him at a pet store when the employees were talking about getting rid of him because he was sick. Instead I took him home as a "project" and nursed him back to health and now he's a happy, healthy betta living with an african dwarf frog and I've had him for almost a year now. My other rescue was a feeder fish which was a runt in the group and the employees said he wouldn't eat if I was looking for another "project" so I took him too. Now he's a happy healthy fish as well and I've had him for more than a year.

Post your stories if you have.

Mostly I've become a "halfway home" for unwanted fish.

Everyone knows I have a big tank so when they move they always want to dump their fish in there. Mostly, it works out fine. I haven't had to buy fish in years. Sometimes it's annoying. Especially when they want to bring over a ginormous Pacu or other aggressive fish that will eat my community dwellers. LOL!!

my best friend has... this lady brought two goldfish in and they were in a FILTHY tank, and she wanted to have us flush them, she didnt want them.... (why couldnt she do it you ask? she didnt want that down her toilet!!) my best friend took em and then, we both took some and they are happily living in our tank :)

haha one time I was at Petco and I saw this really pretty crowntail so I bought him and took him home. I noticed he was really lazy and I didn't like him so I decided to take him back and exchange. I bought a new betta and took him home. Right after I put my new betta in his tank I felt bad about returning my other betta Hercules and I begged my parents to take me back to the store to buy him back. The took me back and luckily he was still there. I still have him and he is now living in his own 20 gallon tank that he shares with a few snails!

It isn't really a rescue though
