has anyone ever had just a salad bar (and/or) pasta bar buffet at their wedding?

my fiance and i were working on planning our wedding and we were trying to come up with some money saving ideas. My fiance and i love salad, and thought it would be fun and unique to to have a fully filled salad bar and pasta bar instead of a traditional sit down meal. we want a traditional wedding with a unique reception that doesn't cost a fortune.

any one who has done this please let me know.
if you have any other cost cutting ideas please let me know. thanks

I'm a DJ and I have done several wedding where the reception consisted of a salad and pasta bar.

The friends and families of the bride and groom are all busy enjoying themselves mingling, etc.

You've got to do what you've got to do without incurring debt! And in this sucky economy, I think many people can understand that.

It works both ways, however. Don't expect expensive gifts either.

I've never been to a wedding with this but a pasta bar and salad bar sound great (I may be biased because I just love pasta and salad!). I think if you have both it would be fine.

If you are good at crafts, you can save a lot of money by making certain things yourself - such as the invitations, favors (if you are having them) and center pieces.
 
never seen it but I think t would be nice, also a cash bar could help keep costs down
 
I have seen the pasta bar before---but not the salad bar.
We just had a HUGE bowl of salad at our wedding-and it went over very well.
A potato bar is also inexpensive idea too!
 
My wedding was just in my inlaws house, but the main dish was stuffed shells made by my sister in law, and it went over big.

I would love a pasta bar at a wedding if I was a guest. And carb-conscious freaks could just have the salad.

I have been to a wedding where that wedding had a pasta section for guest and a buffet table. I do think this can be something affordable for you and your fiance.

Your question have given me ideas since my wedding is also in 2011.
 
I think that doing a pasta buffet would be great. My recommendation is to make at least 1 or 2 dishes more hearty (lasagna maybe or stuffed shells) so that your guests don't go hungry.

The salad bar is nice in theory, but in order to do a filling one you could actually end up spending quite a bit (plus harder to keep full).
 
It's your wedding.. you can do whatever you want...

I would enjoy this at a wedding, but it may not be cost effective..

Check around for inexpensive catering..

At one of my girlfriends wedding we discovered a person who attended her Church, that did catering/wedding cakes as a hobby (!!!!), and did the whole thing, at a substantial savings, because my friend was a church member.........
