Has anyone ever been prescribed a higher dosage of zyrtec?

Are you taking a decongestant? You could try adding one once a day to see if it helps.
 
The reason I am asking is b/c I am already taking every allergy Rx known to man. Has anyone ever been so allergic that your allergist told you to take 2 zyrtec tablets a day instead of one?
 
yeah i was taking the zytrec-d, and it finally stopped helping.

i am going to take 2 zyrtecs today and see what happens.
 
Oh yes. I have permission to do that if I have a bad attack...like the two earlier this year. They finally caught up with it about the evening of the second day or morning of the 3rd.
 
I don't get attacks that consist of constant sneezing, watery eyes, etc, but rather severe congestion, sinus pressure, etc. i wonder if uping my dosage would help any.
 
I wouldn't take 2 zyrtec d in the same day. Try a regular one for the 2nd one...and they should be taken 12 hours apart..not at the same time. So tke one in the AM and one in the PM. If you do that starting today, you should see relief by Tuesday.

You aren't by chance using Afrin, are you?
 
i have tried nasalcrom, but it doesnt work for me.

the funny thing is every time i go to my ENT and she prescribes me a new antihistamine spray, it works wonders for about a month. then, it starts losing effectiveness and the sinus pressure and pain return. so far i have been on astelin, astepro, and finally pantonase. i hope they come out with something new soon.

also, i took 2 regular zyrtec, not the D. next time should i take the zyrtec-D and 12 hrs later take the regular zytrec?
 
Well, I already took them both so we'll see. I also normally get my allergy shots once a week, but i was on vacation last week and missed it. I am getting my shot tomorrow, so hopefully I will get some relief then.

Yes, I started taking afrin this past week b/c of the sinus pressure. It's the only thing that gave me some sort of relief :( i know that it's very bad for you, but I cant function without it.
 
Tomorrow take them 12 hours apart. You should not take that much sudafed at one time. And watch out for the Afrin...try switching to Nasalcrom if you haven't used it before. It doesn't have the rebound effect that Afrin does - in fact, it was invented to get people off Afrin.
 
Yup, that's what she is suggesting. It might help a lot.

Also, I use a steroid nasal spray. It sometimes takes a couple weeks to start working, but it often works well.
 
What you are getting with all these sprays is the rebound effect...works for a while and then not because it is actually causing the problem, not correcting it. You'll need to wean yourself off.

And yes, take one -D and then one regular 12 hours later. That much sudafed at one time can cause heart palpitations.
