Has anyone else thought this of Stephanie Meyer the author of the Twilight Saga?

Ok, dont get me wrong, I LOVE SM and her books..but have you noticed that her books resemble other books from different authors?

her book, "The Host" resembles the book, "A certain slant of light" by Laura Whicomb

And her Twilight story resembles, "Blood and chocolate" and the book, "The Silver Kiss"???

these books were written and published in the early 90's
no seriously...a certain slant of light is about two ghosts/souls that are in love and one of the ghosts has no "host" or body to live in so the two ghosts cant touch eachother or feel eachother until they find a body for the other one. and blood and chocolate is a girl who is a were wolf who comes across a guy who is new in town and he is interested in her and she is trying to stay away so he wont get hurt and then she falls for him she helps him escape an evil wolf pack thats trying to seperate them. bc she is promised to be with someone else..another werewolf. so she is fighting to be with him and keep him safe.

It is a famous on going joke that there are only a handful of stories out there and people just keep retelling them in different ways. All love stories have those Romeo and Juliet moments and so on.

Yeah many stories are similar, but told in slightly different ways from differing points of view. Classic stories are going to be retold... just from different people with different points of view and details they choose to focus on.

Not really because in A Certain Slant of Light they are both ghosts this is completely different from The Host which is an alien human love triangle, as well as the fact that the real story of the host is more about Wanda and Melanie rather than the love story thats just another aspect of it.

Also in Blood and Chocolate she doesn't end up with the guy and SO many stories have one person trying to keep their distance but end up falling in love... thats like a huge plot device.
I mean I guess its all in how you look at it but you can find similarities in any book if you look hard enough.

Well yes.I have never read 'Blood and Chocolate"; but I kept telling my mother that most of her ideas seemed to come from other works. For some reason I think she likes Anime or manga because some of her ideas seemed familiar to what I have seen on Anime or Manga.Like Inuyasha (the way Edward carries bella around like Inuyasha Kagome for example or the bounding for life that some Yukais 'demons' have are just like the ' Inprint' in her books).
But if you ever read Anime fanfiction on the net you will find that most of her ideas are just like the authors of fanfiction.
The Host for example sounds alot like some Yu-Gi-Ho! fanfiction I have come across. And I mean the old fanfictions from before she came up with the books.
But I suppose this is the reason I like the books in the first place.Besides many Authors do that.If you read the Harry Potter books you will find that many ideas com from Tolkien the author of Lord of the Rings.
Call me crazy (like ma mother does) but thats what I think. So you are not alone.

yer, allot of books use the same sort of twist to them its the style of the writer that makes them different. like imagine how many times fables have been altered and written by different people.
