I was curious if anyone found their engines needing an actual adjustment in the valve department. I had mine checked at the initial time, and I change the oil every 1000km (600 miles)and have around 5000km on it, and as it is my baby ( I rub it with a fresh diaper to clear the dust) and have gathered the info I need to adjust the valves. I may just do it for the practice, but as I asked - any found a need yet?

Being a perfectionist, I adjusted all of mine, even if it was only 2 thousandths. What one considers "out of spec" varies with the mechanic. Even if mine are in spec, I have to assume they'll wear before the next check and adjust them to the middle/loose side of the range.

Yes, valves do get out of adjustment. The valves should have been checked at the 1000Km service. They do not need to be checked again this soon.

Do you really change the oil every 600 miles?

Forget how it works, what about what it costs? Geez, I would have needed to change my oil 67 times last year at that interval! The Arabs would have loved me though...

The first oil change at 1,000 kms is to get the mfg's oil and any metal bits out on first serve. Just change the oil and oil filter every 5,000 kms.

Now if you were only riding a 1,000 kms a season then changing it more often would make sense.
;)

I am at 25,000 kms and that would mean 25 oil changes in 18 months.

For DrBob, that would be 52 oil changes per year, at least.

Well I change my oil often, as I read on dansmc website that engines love lots of fresh oil and since it is so cheap, I change it. Not the filter though. Every second time for that. So as to the valves - I am going to adjust them next week. They were done at the initial service but I want to wrench it myself to get the practice. This bke is great though. I'm very pleased with it. It seems to ride even better two up, even at speed (140kmh) or 70ish mph. I used to ride a goldwing, but this is just as nice, but windier.

Tallyho everyone!

At $10.00 a quart I don't think I'll be changing my oil at every 600 miles, I've had my bike 3 weeks I would have changed the oil 3 times as of today. I use Harley SNC 3 Oil good for tranny also.

To get back on your valve topic mine needed an adjustment at 6000 miles.

Dear Wild Wolf . I Am A Suzuki Only Dealer And After Doing A Coulple Of Hundered C-50 Valave Adjustments I Can Say That About 1 Out Of Every 10 We Have Found Lose Valves. Manily Exhaust Side. If It Were Mine I Would Aleast Chek Them.

I get to the recommended interval ... at least by every winter. ;)

I have friends like Dr. Bob..to help me. Besides, it's more fun to ride 6 hours to Atlanta and hang out with friends than sit in my garage wondering if I'm doing something right. :bluethum:
