Has any study sampled & documented how often the Media interprets studies exactly...

...opposite of their findings? For that matter, a similar study could sample Q&A and discussion forums for similar errors in interpretation. (Indeed, I just read a long answer on YA where an AGW opponent somehow believed that the Iris Hypothesis was proposed in an effort to trick the public into believing in AGW.)

It seems that few other science stories has seen so many people (often on both sides of the debate) misunderstand the science.
 
In my experience the media frequently misinterprets research studies or purposely skews the findings to support their viewpoint(s), pretty much like a political "spin-doctor". I'd rather see what the researcher's contemporaries say during a peer review of the literature than trust a potentially ill-informed, possibly under-educated journalist.

As a side note - I even find myself periodically getting pretty fired up when a talk-show physician gives an opinion or makes a comment. I'm sorry, but I believe that once you've made a career choice you stick with it - Hollywood AND a career just don't mix, imo.
