Has any state in the US tried to pass socialized health care for themselves?

Or has this only happened at the federal level?
The question isn't whether or not socialized medicine works, or whether you're for or against. The question is whether or not a single state in the union has ever tried to implement it on themselves.

Massachusetts and it has failed miserably, but have you ever heard of an American going to Canada and it's socialized health care to get treatment they cannot get in America or to save their life, name me one and I will name you 10,000 Canadians for every one you name, that have come to America***************************************************
