Has any President elect been so vilified since Lincoln?

Even before his inauguration Obama has been denounced in his person and every appointment attacked. The lies just keep coming: he is muslim; he is not eligible for office and so on ad nauseum. The right, led by the southern conservatives, refuse to accept the results of the election.

When Lincoln was elected it was even worse, of course, because the right (led by the southern conservatives) attacked not only his person and appointment but also the Union itself. Ironic that the spiritual descendants of the secessionists would go ballistic at the election of a black President.

Surely no President elect has been abused as much since Lincoln. Can anybody name one?
 
You see it that way, I see it another. The obama followers act as if Obama has already performed miracles. The man is a hero even before taking office. HE is being compared to Lincoln and kennedy. I say you are wrong. This man has had so many breaks and boosts by the press is almost laughable,
 
First, I am a southern republican who HASN'T vilified Obama. I wish him success. So do most of my Republican friends. I have come to terms with the election and have accepted it. While you are upset with Republicans who have vilified Obama, that hasn't stopped you from vilifying Republicans. How sanctimonious of you.

Second, you obviously don't remember 2000 because if you did then you would remember Bush being attacked just as harsh as Obama. I do remember a lot of people screaming that he had "stole" the election. There are people (from both political parties) who are going to be upset that their candidate lost. Most people get over it.

who served. The current generation always thinks there generation

is the only one that matters

I seem to remember ppl calling him a cheater even before he took office....then 9/11....than the wars....ya

Obama is in no way similar to Lincoln- not even the same party. Illinois is very different place nowadays. Bush is much more like lincoln.
