has any one had a bad experience at the ECONO LODGE in GARDEN GROVE,I sure

did..reserved a DOWNSTAIRS SMOKING ? reserved a downstairs smoking room at the ECONO LODGE in Garden Grove, CA...when i arrived, i was told they only had non smoking rooms available..I told the manager that i am a light smoker and would go outside to smoke..,the manager said that was not acceptable, but if i paid her 100.00 they she would allow me to smoke in my room...i agreed to pay her the 100.00.paid for my entire stay with cash got my key...the manager refused to give me a reciept, said shed do it later..i was to tired to find another hotel...on day of departure. 8;00 in the morning i had gone to my car to pack a few items..came back to room..left the door open ajar..was changing clothers,,,the manager BARGES INTO MY ROOM AND STATES" youve been smoking in here" I state we we had agreement that if i paid 100.00 i could smoke in my room..MANAGER STATES"you now owe me another 300.00 go to the office and pay the bill..not wanting to argue i was willing to pay, as long as i got a bill and reciept, as I have to pay taxes, this was a business trip> the manager refused to give me a bill for her new found charges,she then demanded to see my ID again. i refused.she then got on the phone speaking a foreign language..i felt if i did not give her my id and money she was calling someone to hurt me or beat me up..very threatening.dont think ive been that scared in a long time..asked the manager to show me motel policy that says you are charged 100.00 every night you stay because you smoke..she refused to show me any hotel policies...with the call to her strong arms i left..did not finish the transaction...i always pay my bills, so i called up the hotel later ,after i left ,and told them to please e mail me the bill, send me the bill..and the hotel policy...she refused to send me the bill..i had to COME BACK TO THE HOTEL TO GET THE BILL! she said that if i didnt come back to the hotel shed call the police..called one more time,she still refused to send me a bill...tried to defraud me with threats,..refused to give me bill or reciept..or any info on motels smoking policy,I AM A SENIOR. similar experiences???
 
Here is what you need to do.
Call 1-800-4choice and get the number for customer service.
Call in this complaint in, and they will force Econo lodge to resolve it, if they get too many unanswered complaints they can be fined, and eventually lose the name. Choice hotels owns the econo lodge name , and while that is their budget brand, they are actively seeking to improve it.

Also, most hotels now do have a fine for smoking in a non smoking room, it would be a 1 time fine. this sounds really bogus to me.
 
Your first mistake was when you paid cash upfront not getting a receipt. I don't care how late it was, I would have politely said if I don't get a receipt I'm not staying and then left if need be.

Second, after she burst into my room, I would have called the police then and there. They definitely wouldn't arrest you because it's civil not criminal.

And I wouldn't have gone back. I would have called the corporate customer service number and made them fax you a bill.
