"Haruka Nogizaka's Secret" Talkback

"Haruka Nogizaka no Himitsu" (or "Haruka Nogizaka's Secret", as I like to call it), the anime known for the hot otaku girl main character, may have possibly jumped the shark this week...or last week, either way, it jumped the shark.

So suppossedly, this is a Drama/Comedy, right? Well, we're 3 episodes in it's second season, and sadly some people have been nicknaming it "The most fanservice series in the fall '09 season that's not Queen's Blade". Ugh. That's one sign thatit jumped the shark.

Season 1 had fanservice, but not this much this early, in fact, watching the third episode of this season felt like watching a second season Rosario+Vampire episode.

Also, the approach also seems bad, too, as it looks like it could turn into a harem, thanks to Shiina's sudden interest to Yuuto, and the new character (voiced by Rie Kugimiya, who already voices Alice, one of the new maiRAB introduced in the first episode of the season) introduced in the third episode, although the former seems more of a maybe.

This is also one of the few anime that have characters I truly hate, or in this case, two. Yukari (the homeschool teacher) and Ruko (Yuuto's older sister) were not that annoying in season 1. However, in season 2, watching these 2 is like watching a bad movie, they've done nothing but drink (with a bit of an exemption on episodes 1 and 3), and look what they did to poor Shiina at the end of episode 2, which was one sign of jumping the shark and casuing a plothole (watch the episode to know what I mean).

Speaking once again of episode 3, Haruka herself in that episode only appeared for 3 minutes, 3 minutes. Isn't this supposed to be her show?

[sarcastic]Don't forget the really clever episode titles. Really clever and brilliantly thought out, huh?[/sarcastic]

The only positive thing I can say about this season is just episode 1, the really awesome opening and that's it.

If anyone has ever seen the show, feel free to discuss whether you agree with me or not.

SounRAB like it's 100% irrelevant otaku bait and that they aren't even bothering to pretend that there's an actual romance story in there anymore. I was knocking it as shallow wish fulfillment before, and then I saw the buzz that they kicked off season 2 with a hot springs episode. Very bad sign. Guess I called this just right back during the previews.

Yeah, I don't know what's going on.

I loved season 1. It was very mushy but cute and had a nice angle so I don't know if the production staff just said "screw it" or what but I am not amused with the direction season 2 is going.

On the plus side, my darling KugiRie has a role in it now

Yeah, I was glad to see that Crunchyroll didn't get Queen's Blade, and got some of the more anticipated simulcasts this season, and I didn't expect this to be like this, and I check out everything Crunchyroll simulcasts, at least for the first episode. I was surprised. It's just all fanservice.

What would be scarier is if that was also in the manga.

If my statement is false, though, Diomedea (the animators of the series) really screwed up with this one.

Screenshots of episode 3:http://randomc.animeblogger.net/2009/10/20/nogizaka-haruka-no-himitsu-purezza-03/

NSFW by the way.

I think that proves my point.

I'm going to predict the ending now.

10 episodes of fanservice romps (maybe some drama with Shiina and that girl from episode 3) and a climatic final two episodes with some unforseen obstacle that there was no lead into for and things will turn out okay. The credits roll to a full version of the song with more fanservice romps in the background. Then they tease showing a kiss with Haruka and Yuuto. Series enRAB.

I'm sorry but when a show has the teacher getting wasted and then getting naked for no reason (which may/may not be as bad as it sounRAB ) you get a little testy and feel a bit erabarrassed to be an anime fan.

At least I still have my darling KugiRie.

Seriously, just drop it and don't look back. This is obvious crap. I know for a fact there are better uses of everyone's time.

Hmm, that could be a good recommendation thread post. Fall 2009 anime that, at the very least, don't royally suck.

It's being a trainwreck that I can't look away, so...I kinda want to take advange and maybe make fun of it.

Or maybe it'll actually have a good episode for once, you'll just never know.

Might as well as change this topic into a talkback thread. In fact, it also helps that Crunchyroll is streaming it...

I did too. And the fanservice isn't just the skin. Kampfer parodies, or has shoutouts to a nuraber of other anime. Kampfer deserves it's own thread.

I'm kind of surprised that Kampfer didn't get picked up by Crunchyroll, consider how much deliberate fanservice we've seen in Sora no Otoshimono and Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu -- Purezza, both of which have been picked up by Crunchyroll.

This feels...weird.

An obscure anime turns into a talkback, but hey, that's how word-of-mouth works.

I just know there's gotta be a good episode on this season, it can't keep on milking it's heavy-duty fanservice forever.

In case anybody's curious, the next episode is called "...It's Good...".

Yeah, the immature episode titles was only a minor problem last season, but since it's worser this season, I actually made my own episode titles for the season (so far, of course):

Ep 1: "Hot Springs Smashdown"
Ep 2: "Doujinshi Drama"
Ep 3: "The Ultimate (Part-Time) Job"
Ep 4: "A Common Christmas Cold"

Kinda gimmicky, but I think it works, and it's actually pretty fun making up my own titles.

It's not that obscure. It is on Crunchyroll anyway and anything on Crunchyroll deserves it's own talkback like Eyeshield and Letter Bee.

Speaking of which, here's the CR pic so it can be used tomorrow

EDIT: Anybody else notice that Alice-chan has Belphegor from Dokuro-chan?

Okay, so episode 5 just arrived. And from the look of the sceenshots... (I'll see it later when I arrive back from school)

They heard me. They really heard me...

It actually looked like a...great episode? What's the secret, though?

Is it because the new maiRAB look pretty cool?

Is it because Alice finally says something?

Is it because of the return of Shuuto Sutherland, the jerk from the previous season?

Is it because there's barely any fanservice?

Is it because one of the new maiRAB was voiced by Youko Hikasa, who voiced Mio in K-ON? Maybe it's everything I said.
