Haruhi Suzumiya Sequel Confirmed (or is it?)

It is strange that after three years KyoAni still has not produced another season.

I think at this point the production team simply wants the whole thing to die quietly. Maybe it was a lot of fun back in '06, and it made the company a whole lot of money, but KyoAni wants to work on other stuff as well.

There's also the rumors that the original author of the Light Novels is suffering from major writer's block and can't seem to decide on how the story should continue. Maybe the anime team simply does not want to continue working on a story that may never get a proper ending.

Oh boy this is going to get pretty ugly... But hopefully the 2nd season will premiere seriously I'm friggin' addicted to this series. And on that topic any news on the next novel?

Oh I see now. Well for all the writers out there we all suffer from writer's block just not that serious... But if the rumor(which it looks like.) true... Not good.

Well, first I should check if we're both thinking of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya part 6 (i.e. the last episode to air in the broadcast order). That concluded a story that was basically a crisis (reality was in danger, after all) and offered some closure for the "keep Haruhi happy so that she won't wreck the status quo of the universe" plot by suggesting the beginnings of a romance between Haruhi and Kyon. If they never make any more Haruhi anime, that strikes me as being rather good closure.

Yeah, but it's really unsatisfying if you've ever read the light novels. It's a much bigger and even more amazing world than even the series lets on, and it's all great stuff. Not a bum story in the lot.

That's a fair point, and relevant to this side of the Pacific considering that the light novels are coming out in English soon. I think they ought to take a shot at making more. At the least though, AFAIK anime doesn't go into reruns all that often, so maybe a rebroadcast would be a good sign even though it's a disappointment. One series that comes to mind that reran was Fullmetal Alchemist I think, and obviously that came back strong with the movie and the new series coming up.

If not this spring, then probably in the fall I'll bet.

Well, you also have a good 13 if not 26 episodes of material you can tap that doesn't necessarily get you into the Disassociation arc (which is where the story has hung up, and maybe for good reason because depending how that is resolved, the series could be at a natural conclusion at that point.) KyoAni would be silly not make that money.

We have another fruits basket here.

An extremely porfitable and popular series with a large amount of material to adapt, but the companies simply just hate money for some reason and don`t want to make more.

Eh, give it another 2 years and a public statement from the light novel author about being unhappy about the adaption before we put it in that camp.

Money is not everything in business, as illogical as that may seem. There have been plenty of profitable media franchises discontinued over the years due to disputes between former business partners and other petty feuRAB.

As Karl alluded to in his post, the FB anime was discontinued due to the original creator expressing displeasure over how it was adapted. KareKano was another victim of creator backlash against the anime studio.

That being said, I don't think that's the case here. It may be more about KyoAni trying having trouble with trying to adapt the original material in a way that satisfying to their own high standarRAB. Or as I stated before, they want to make sure that the publication of the novels continues before they go forward. The point is we don't know, so we should just wait and see what develops over the next year.

They'll simply pull a Gainax and wait until no one cares about getting the pointless new merchandise to drag their lazy butts and make a new anime to reignite the interest on the franchise.
