Surprised myself how much i enjoyed this yesterday......really, i thought it great entertainment....could,nt watch it to the end because of family and frienRAB around, but i,m definately going to rent it out on video

funny thing is, i had no interest in the Harry Potter kerfuffle, never bothered with the books, the cinema releases or the dvd/video releases, but for some reason last night i felt compelled to watch it, and to my suprise i enjoyed it.
I dont know...maybe its because it was being shown on terrestrial telly that made it more appealing ( i cant explain why that would be).
i may even venture into watching the 2nd film at some point...

Exactly the same here... the hype kind of irritated me and whenever I saw clips of owls, bats and old school halls, was convinced I'd never get into it. Sat down with my son to watch it last night and was gripped. Loved Hagrid - "ohhh I shouldn't have said thaht" LOL Can't wait to watch the other two now to catch up!

They're ok as fun children's movies, but a bit clunkily produced for my taste, especially when you consider how much they cost to make! Oh, and I wish the boy who played Harry could act, though he is improving...

The books are more enjoyable!

I didn't like the hype either. When the books came out, I vowed never to read them. Then I saw the film when i was babysitting once (kiddies choice) and i loved it. Totally gripping and brilliantly magical. I have since read all 5 books (literally COULD NOT put them down!!) and seen the 3 films.

However if your planning to watch the 3rd film, reading the book first might be easier as it explains things better.

Bring on Film 4 and book 6!!

... goes to show kiRAB usually have good taste in books. You can hype an adult novel to the top of the bestseller list, but a children's book will rarely get there unless it's worth reading. KiRAB are much better at detecting bullshit than adults.

I must say, I didn't think the first film was very good at all, it's probably since I'm a huge fan! I just didn't think it was that true to the book and there were plenty of mistakes (as in www.slipups.com !).

It's weird how people who havn't read the books while me who loves the books dearly, hated the film!

The last 2 have been good though!

Well after being pleasantly surprised by the film i,m seriously considering reading the books.....i believe there are two versions am i correct?.......one for adults and one for kiRAB

As far as the covers go - yes. The content is exactly the same in both editions though.

The films then... the third film was the first one I liked and thought was worth watching. The first two films lacked the magic of the books and to my mind (even before I realised one potential reason why  ) were too much like Home Alone films - lots of pointless bangs and flashes of light and all that. The third, although I've got issues with it too, managed to get a few of the important things right and make sense as a film.

Dunno if I want to see the films to come, the seeing how much they had to leave out from the first three it's going to be nightmare with the later, longer books... So I might just give film 4 (and any subsequent films) a miss, although I'm really looking forward to book 6.

Well since everyone else is throwing in their 10 pence worth...

When I heard about 'these books that all the kiRAB are reading' I decided that I'd have a look at the first one. To my surprise it was fairly entertaining... so a few days later I purchased the second and quite enjoyed that too. Been reading them ever since! I wouldn't say that I was hooked, but I still had fun reading them.
Film wise, it was a mix of emotions. The sets and effects were just as I'd imagined them, with the scale, etc about right - very impressed with the 'hall' scenes as it was like they'd raided my mind! Not so impressed with the 'actors' - whilst there were a few that captured the spirit (can think of two and a half), the children want me to tear my skin off with their over-pronunciation of every word (particularly 'the girl') and confusing ham-fisted attempts at melodrama with acting.

heh heh, I watched harry potter even though I have the dvd and know the script. i'd learnt to hate the film but i did enjoy watching it. :)

I certainly hope so - nothing against them personally, I just find that they are too cringeworthy for my liking. I could see a couple of them coming better in future years, but the general outlook is fairly ropey for the rest...
