cliffs: Worst HP movie to date.
I saw the movie last week, but have been camping all weekend. I really wanted to post this earlier.
Worst HP movie of them all. I am a fan of the movies. I do not read the books. My wife does. This is an important point to remember while reading this review.
First the good stuff:
Special effects were outstanding!
Acting got MUCH better. (Hey they got older, and have been doing the characters long enough!)
Now the bad:
I can best describe the movie as a series on unfinished thoughts. All thru the movie I kept finding scenes that made little sense. Characters were built up to do big things that never materialized. Things talked to curtains with no explanation. A group of people did something that 4/6 of them could NOT do.
My wifes initial reaction was "Wow they really stayed true to the book! It was great!" Then I began to ask about all teh scenes that made no sense. She then began to realize I was right. People who read the book, their minds put together the pieces. Those who didn't were lost! She agreed once she thought about it. Then when she explained what things were I got even more upset with the movie.
Lots of things could have been explained with 2-3 lines of dialog. There was no reason to cut out info that tied things together!
The movie is called "Order of the Phoenix" They look kick ass! Yet... the ass kicking never really materializes. Their roll is so tiny its sad. And they had so much potential! The build up to the ending is just enormous, that when the solution at the end is found, you are left with a "that's it?!" feeling.
My wife explained how the plot in the book was much more complicated and focused on the Order of the Phoenix.
If you didn't read the book, you're left with a weak story, plot holes, scenes that go no where, and choppy editing.
