harry potter and the half blood prince

I can't wait to see harry potter and the goblet of fire but as I read the most recent book I was thinking how the film-makers will transform the latest 3 books into films as the books are so detailed and so long. I fear that heavy editing may spoil the story.

I was disappointed that Harry Potter and the prisoner of azkaban never fully explained mauraders map as it did in the book. With the books getting bigger and bigger the need for editing will become greater.

However, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince provides the perfect opportunity to leave information of Voldemorts past for a prequel. The series could continue until Harry's final year at Hogwarts and then using the information that Dumbledore and Harry discover in The HalfBlood Prince they could create an additional film to tell the story of Tom Riddle and how he became Voldemort. This would be a similar idea to the prequels of the star wars trilogy. This way the filmmakers will be happy to make more money and the public will be treated to a closer transformation from book to film.

What do you think?

NO PREQUELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!UYOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THEY DO SEQUELS AND PREQUELS!ITS NOT HAPPENING Jk said shed never fall under that curse

I can see how a prequel might provide an outlet for more detail and backstory but I think ultimately it would be a bad idea.

The Goblet of Fire movie looks fab though! Really looking forward to it, especially as its my fave of the books.

But I don't mean to make up some random rubbish for a prequel.

I don't know if you have read the halfblood prince but Harry and Dumbledore step into the pensieve to view parts of Tom Riddle / Voldemorts past. I thought that this bit could be directly lifted from that book for a prequel instead of trying to squeeze it into a film and miss out loaRAB of other bits because of time constraints.

I don't think that they will do it anyway. I just hope they don't cut out some really good parts of the story when they make it. Maybe these bits will be vital in Harry's last adventure in which case they could not leave it for a prequel.

The problem is the three young actors are getting on a bit. Aren't they all 15 now? At the current rate that HP films are being made they'll be 19 or 20 by the time the 7th one comes out, and that's if JK Rowling writes it in time.

I know about the pensieve,we hacve all the information we need about voldemort now, there is no need for a prequel im just glad the jk has the sense to quit while shes very far ahead.its ideas like these that make me glad that jk will stop at 7 books

Another good idea. I thought they would do that with the goblet of fire but they decided they could cram it into one. I hope it isn't too long - I get fidgetty in the cinema.

I worked out that she has 2 years to write it before the films catch up. I think she can do it as there was only two years between the order of the phoenix and the latest one. I looked on imdb.com and it says that the same cast are signed up for the order of the phoenix so it would be a shame to have to change the cast for the last one if she doesn't complete the book in time.

Fingers crossed.

I agree completely JK has definately planned out her series of books very well and the idea to write seven to cover Harry's life at hogwarts is a very good idea and has given her a lot of money.

I guess it is therefore logical to stop at 7 books and 7 films. Splitting the films in 2 is another good idea to ensure a closer translation to the text but i don't think they will do that either.

It sounRAB like you are happy as long as you have the information from the book and you don't mind if they include it in the film or not. I suppose nearly the whole of the half blood prince is centred around the pensieve so it would be silly to use that elsewhere( ie. a prequel).

looking how the films are improving as they go along hopefuly GOF will be better than POA (even though it was very good i thought there was something missing)

My friend and I felt exactly the same way.

When I first saw it I think the book was still firmly in my memory and i was constantly thinking they missed this bit out and that bit out. However, i have seen it more recently and prefer it now the book has faded a bit from my memory and i can enjoy it just as a stand alone film (rather than a book to film translation).

I think for that reason I will not re-read the goblet of fire before seeing the film and hopefully i will enjoy it more. I have now finished reading the halfblood prince and it is awesome. Should be a brilliant film but I think it may have to go up to at least a 12 certificate, which is a shame as my cousins are only young and they love the series but I think the sectumsempra curse may be a bit too graphic for them.
