Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince

I know :D We should be ashamed... we drifted from this thread for too long!

I know, I did actually forget about the film for a while  But now im back and hooked! :D

And I'm not sure...?

I am actually quite alright with DH being two films. Granted the gap between the two is not good but I would much rather them have two films than cut loaRAB of bits out.

As Lisa has said above, if they start cutting DH they will run into problems as all if it is somewhat relevant. OK, they could cut some scenes like some parts of the trio hiding out in Grimauld place, but even then you need these as you find out more about Kreacher and what Mundungus did with what he stole from the house.

I can't really think of any larger elements (more than a few minutes of screen time) of DH they could cut and still keep track of what is happening.

No, muggles saw her doing magic and beat her up or something and she was emotionally scarred for life and went a bit mad and they kept her in the cellar
- i think thats how it went, i've not read the book for ages
anyway shes got her
portrait
hasn't she? and I assume they'll have some flashbacks relating to the dumbledore siblings and grindelwald?

lol I took my time with the big big re-read. Spent a week on it all just before the release! :)

LOL Hey I need my collection :p Now I have my Collectors Beedle the Bard coming :D Bring on the Encyclopedia!!

Dumbledore is expecting a child lol. No but Michael Gambon is and he's bloody 68. Congrats to him. :) ok ive read the article again and it said it was rumoured

I wonder how you get a part as an extra in HP. :)

Just been to watch it.

I loved the book.

And I thought the film was pretty good. And pretty sad as well. Dumbledore has always been one of my favourite characters.

But I don't like how they missed out some big things which were in the book. And in my opinion people who don't know the Harry Potter story fully would not understand the film. It was a good film, but I guess my expectations were too high. Their was something missing. A lot of heartful moments in the book, they didn't come out in the film.

In the next book 'Deathly Hallows', their are some really big moments that I would love to see on the Movie. I really hope they take the approach of the last book in a simillar way of the first 2 films. They can't miss out some of those important bits.

What does everyone else think ?

I genuinely think this was the best HP film so far. The opening was a bit "meh" and really pointless, however since it was relatively short i'll not dwell too much on it. The Hermione/Ron romance was touching, IMO. I think alot of HP fans who HAVEN'T read the books were probably suspecting Harry + Hermione to get together. Slughorn was fantastic and really convincing. Young Tom Riddle was superb, as was Lavendar Brown and Luna Lovegood.

The only thing that annoys me about all the HP films are that nothing ever seems to be explained properly at the end. Speaking as someone who has read all the books it's not that big deal, however I can imagine plenty of HP fans were probably left feeling a bit confused at the Half Blood Prince thing (which added nothing to the film), the necklace (I think Dumbledore mumbled the explanation for this at the end, however it wasn't very clear at all) and the Romilda Vane/Cormac McLaggen characters (who seemed to just be "there" because they were in the book).

The Good -
Luna Lovegood, Bellatrix Lestrange, Draco Malfoy, Severus Snape, Lavendar Brown, Slughorn and Tom Riddle were all fantastic.
Hermione and Ron were superb as usual, and their story was a relaxing side point from the darkness of the Horcruxes.
The duels looked alot more realistic.
The cave scene was well done.
The scene with Dumbledore's body and the students raising their wanRAB was a nice touch.
Although a bit pointless, the Burrow scene was exciting and really demonstrated the horror and violence that the Death Eaters were capable of.
An entertaining film overall which was a nice teaser for Deathly Hallows.

The Bad -
No Madam Rosmerta.
No Dursleys.
No Dobby (although I can't remember if he was in the book?)
Dissapointing ending with a very short battle scene.
Not enough Hagrid.
Dragged on a bit.
The HBP story was essentially pointless and added nothing to the film.
Not enough Tonks or Lupin (I mean, ONE scene??)
No mention of Sirius.

Also - Harry was a bit dislikeable in this. When he run out The Burrow to chase Bellatrix did he ever stop to think that it would have been a trap? As if Bellatrix is gonna Apparate outside The Burrow and run away taunting for no reason! The way he just chased after her even after the others yelled "No!" made him look selfish and a bit "oh look at me, i'm being tough chasing a Death Eater, i'm brave!!". Ugh

They begin filming Deathly Hallows in February 2009.

They are filming the two parts all at the same time- taking one year.

So approx. total filming done February 2010.

Then there is post-production work which takes months so the November 2010 release for Part 1 is pretty standard.

There will only be 6 months between the release of Part 1 and Part 2 (May 2011) when I expect there will be loaRAB of post-production work needed to be completed on it- it has some big scenes :D

Im happy with the gap between the two.

Its a BIG event so they are going to want to build it up- and of course release Part 1 on DVD a few weeks before Part 2 comes out in the cinema!!! :D:rolleyes::D

Oh dear oh dear. I don't agree with this poll!!

Agree with Pride and Prejudice, 1984, Deathly hallows and other HP, To Kill a mockingbird, His dark Materials, LOTR, and Jane Eyre being top 10.

But Da Vinci Code????? I read the book because everyone else was but i really don't think it's a classic.

And why is Deathly Hallows in there twice?
