Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince

The Order of the Phoenix movie largely ignored the Order of the Phoenix, the Half Blood Prince movie largely ignores the HBP, I can only imagine that the upcoming Deathly Hallows movies will ignore the Deathly Hallows.

So, missing from this film:
  • The Gaunts
  • The Prime Minister
  • Hepzibah Smith (?)
  • Funeral
  • Madam Rosmerta
  • Percy and Scrimgeour visiting the Burrow
  • The Battle with the Death Eaters

I tend to understand why they cut some scenes from the books eg Winky & Bagman from GOF - they don't progress the story cinematically, but I don't like hearing what I'm
hearing here HP'ers!

Without that scene followed by Harry's resolution of "I'll get 'im" (Not quoting here! :p)
then the story isn't properly set for the final two films. That's my opinion anyhoo! :)

darn... i forgot the hallows but then again like you said it is interlinked with the search for the horcruxes which is kinda why i put it as one because it is all inter-linked. They can't cut much - other than all the pages where they are starving and bored and don't quite know what to do next although tbh JK Rowling does a good job covering that so it doesn't go on forever.

Transformers 2 is a huge pile of crap. It just goes to show that with the right marketing and 'reputation' people will go and see anything. The first Transformers was much better than 2 but really just OK. Unbelievable.

Finally saw it - my 2p here.

Stellar performances from Felton, Rickman and Gambon. Some exceptionally good directing, and the dropped plotlines/altered scenes were very well handled, and probably for the best given the unwieldy nature of the book.

I even include the way the death at the end was handled. Different, but not worse. Potter has finally been convinced to trust Snape, so his inaction - rather than being forced upon him - added to the sense of betrayal. I also expect much build up on the "I didn't do anything" angst in the next film.

The pervading sense of impending catastrophe was great, and the comedy scenes and darker scenes sat very well with one another.

It also handled the story of Draco probably better than the book did - with the visual juxtaposition of his internal dispair and loneliness with the normal teenage raging hormones of other characters was particularly effective.

Just wish I could have seen more character moments for the more minor characters - but the extra half hour it would have required would have been an issue for bladders, I guess.

Genuinely impressed that what could have been a disjointed mess (I consider it one of the weaker books) is up there with the strongest of the films.
