Harry Potter 5 - Order of the Phoenix

I felt the first two pretty much lived up to the books (except for some inexplicable dialogue-switching between characters), but POA was wide off the mark and left out important details that GOF then assumed you knew (i.e. Harry referring to Peter Pettigrew as 'Wormtail' - You would only know who he meant if you read the books as POA completely omitted all references to the Marauders except for the map itself.). It's amazing how the same screenplay writer manages some inconsistency between films.

Having said that, I really liked the first three films because they introduced me to the books, but with GOF it was the first time I had watched the film after reading the book and from the complexity of the book, I knew it would be an impossible task to cram all 700 pages into a 2h 30m film when POA couldn't even do it with a 300-page book.

If you view the films as they are - entertainment - then you will enjoy them immensely. If you view them as adaptations of the books, they tend to leave a bitter taste in the mouth afterwarRAB.

Incidentally, I have them all on DVD too.

This was the worst movie ever to be adapted from the books. Dumbledore was down right nasty, they cut LOARAB out of the book. It was a total dissapointment.
Snape had about 3 lines, Draco had only 2 or 3 llines, no Dursley's, no Mrs Weasly.
No Sirius Black (apart from the fire scene which was a total let down).

If the producers/directors etc can't do a book justice then they should NOT bother doing a movie at all.

WB ruined a fantastic book.

And for the love of God, RE-CAST Dumbledore. The current actor is pathetic and has never read a HP book in his life. Michael Gambon is too harsh to play this wonderful, loving character.

I have to disagree as this is probably my favourite of all the four films. If the movies are looked at purely as film and taking the books out of the picture, then this is probably the best one of them all.
If the director, brought in all those people then all that would be happening is that the film would be extended without adding anything to the actual main story.
TBH how important are Sirius, Mrs.Weasley and Malfoy in the actual plot of the film and the answer is not very.
The film focuses on the Triwizard tournament which concerns neither Malfoy, Sirius or Mrs.Weasley and therefore their not being in the film is entirely justified.
I kinda agree about Dumbledore, I don't think he is as good as Richard Harris (Wasn't it? ) but still think that he does a good job as dumbledore and simply approaches it at a different angle.

I wonder if in 10 years time we'll get "Goblet of Fire - The Directors Cut" lasting 3/3 and a half hours?

Or whether in 20 years time the films will be remade totally sticking to the books?

When will people understand that you can't trult make a film of a book! Especially a long book!
The film would be 20 hours long!

WB ruined the book?!? Nonsense. The book is still exactly the same.

I'm wondering how, in film 5, they'll approach the fact that no-one believes Harry's story.

In the books, Barty Crouch Junior had a Dementor's kiss and was therefore unable to be brought to trial and give evidence that Voldemort was back - hence the Ministry of Magic using the line that Harry's story wasn't true.

But in the 4th film, Dumbledore just said "Tell the dementors one of their prisoners has escaped." Pretty lame. If he was taken back to Azkabahn, he'd be questioned?

They'll probably just drop a line into the film about him dying or something. It's stuff like this that makes me really disappointed in the film adaptations. They miss out huge and really important chunks. I know they can't possibly include all the themes in a film, but surely they need to get the most important stuff in?
