Harley Davidson riders, why?

I'm not criticising you, but when I've ridden Harleys, they don't seem to have the power, torque or even build quality of some "Japanese" bikes (despite being built in America by Americans in many cases). So what was the reason behind your decision to buy a Harley?

I think it is similar to people who buy a new Dodge Challenger instead of a Nissan 370Z. The Nissan may handle better and be faster, but the looks, as well as the feel of driving a classic american muscle car (modern or old) is much different than driving a new foreign sports car. Some people just prefer that, even though a different option may be faster or handle better.
Harley Davidson is what most people think of when they think of motorcycles. It is basically an american icon.

im not a harley rider (could never afford one) but the harley is the proper old school of bikes as everything main stream these days build quality is slipping and yes there are many other bikes out there with lots more power speed and better handling but you just wont feel the freedom a harley gives you (maybe its just in the head but either way its still there)

Because a Harley is not about being the fastest, or winning street races.

Its about cruising and looking tough, with a mid-life crisis gut, bugs in your teeth, and a weekender beard.
