A HD and a Ducati are 2 different style of bikes
The HD is slow and heavy designed for slow group riding and parades
The Ducati is a lightweight sport bike designed for high speed and handling.
Sit down and figure out your riding style and what type of riding you want to do.
Sounds to me you want a bike that's a cross between a cruiser and naked sport bike, then I would highly suggest either the Yamaha Warrior or the Kawasaki Mean Streak

That's like saying should I buy a Porsche 4x4 or a John Deer Tractor.
If you want a motorcycle buy a Ducati, if you want something that is built like an agricultural tractor from a basic design that first appeared in the early 1900's then join the ranks of those who do not know any better.

It's like asking what's better, an apple or an orange. Depends on your taste and in this case what type of riding you are going to be doing. Harley's are built for touring. They have great resale value and can easily be customized. Ducati's are built for the race track.
Personally, I prefer BMW bikes. I admit, they don't look as cool as HD or Ducatis, but they combine reliability, performance and comfort better than any other brand. Resale is strong, but not as good as HD.

ducati is way more reliable and has better speed. But harley davidson has been around before world war one

for a road bike you should buy a Harley-Davidson they are the best but if your looking for road racing or off roading then your Ducati will be great too. before you buy the Ducati go and check out the Buell's they are also a great bike for all around good luck!!! HARLEY-DAVIDSON #1
