Has anyone filed Hardship Status (CNC) with IRS?
My fiance currently owes back child support to pay welfare back for when we were collecting. We are no longer on welfare but my fiance has just been laid off. They have applied an offset to his refund for the entire amount to pay back welfare.
We are in a dire hardship at this time since he lost his job... i'm a full time student and bring no income in, and we are really needing this refund to pay rent for the next few months. I'm not saying we don't want to repay them for their help, but we just want to collect this refund for our child and our family so we don't go homeless.
is Hardship status (Currently not collectible) an option for us? Or does that not work with back-child support?
Please don't judge... we are good people who are struggling at the moment.
