Explaining this differently than last question - Bought a used computer with sata hardrive (win xp pro on it - trying to extract and use old hardrive from broken computer as slave on the slot of motherboard thats not being used.
motherboard has 2 slots (with pins) one of the slots is being used by the cd/dvd drive, the ribbon its connected to has a middle plug. when I plug the old hardrive to it, it reads it and I can take the info off it and put it on the sata hardrive that came with this used computer I just bought.
I can not keep it this way because I was told that the old harddrive will be slow sharing it with the cd/dvd rom. Also it hangs there and I cant put the hardrive is the right enclosure because its on connected to the middle of the cd/dvd ribbon.
MY Question (finally)
How do I get that un used slot to read the old hardrive?
I tried bios and it gave me one option of turning master/slave on auto (from I cant remember what it said) but then the os wont boot up so I have to change it back.
