Hard Tail mountain bike vs. Full Suspension Mountain Bike?

I would like some advice on mountain biking. currently I am riding my dad's X-country bike, its pretty old (like 1993 model) so i was thinking of getting a DH bike. I am a beginner, I ride the Trans Canada Trail, and some runs on cypress (blue and green level) [BC, Canada], and i was wondering if i should get a full suspension bike or a hard tail. I am also going uphill quite a bit, so i don't want a super heavy bike. the bike that I'm looking to buy (maybe) is the 2007 Jamis Komodo FX 2.0 hard tail. should i buy it?

full suspension is much easier to use for down hill but only if youre willing to spend at least 3000. I hear hard tails are better for learning on, you will be fine on smoother trails only in rough rock gardens do you really need a full suspension bike. but if you get good you will probably want a downhill bike, and it will be a waste to buy the komodo, so maybe you should go ahead and get one if you have the money.
