Dr. J.L. Quicksolve felt the cool east wind on the back of his neck as he knocked on the front door. In spite of the clear morning, he felt a chill as he looked at the three splintered bullet holes in the door. Sergeant Rebekah Shurshot let the dectective into the house, and Crystal Goblet explained what happened.
"I've been afraid lately. I think someone has been following me." she said. " I keep seeing a black Honda Civic in my; rearview mirror.
"The Honda Civic is one of the most popular cars in America," Sergeant Shurshot interrupted. "we all see them in our rearview mirrors."
Crystal went on, "I thought my husband was at work. his secretary, Miss laptop, called around six to tell me my husband would be working late yesterday."
"Does his secretary usually call you when your husband works late?" Sergeant Shurshot asked.
"Too usually," Crystal reflected with a note of bitterness. "So when I heard someone at the front door," she continued, "I was frightened. I thought someone was breaking in. So I got my husband's gun and I hid behind the door. When the door opened I saw a shadow fall across the floor. I knew someone had come into my house. I didn't wait to see who it was. I was too frightened. I shot through the door. When I looked around the door, I couldn't believe I saw my husband lying dead on the floor. I was shattered."
Sergeant Shurshot looked at Dr. Quicksolve and shook her head.
"No, It wasn't and accident, was it, Mrs. Goblet?" Quicksolve asked.
Why didn't they believe her story?
