hard bump in groin area

i believe i have had a fungal infection in the folds of my groin area on and off for a while. i just noticed in the upper fold of my groin, between my groin and my leg, a small firm bump. the skin on top of it and around it is red and irritated. at first it really burned when i touched it, but i've been using jock itch spray and the burning and pain have gone away. the lump is still there and the skin around it is still a little red.

any ideas what this could be? i'm kind of anxious about it. could jock itch cause this lump? i have no other lumps.

It's probably an enlarged lymph node caused by the infection. If that's the case it's nothing to worry about, once the infection goes so will it. That can take a while though. You may need antibiotics, it's probably worth a trip to the Doctors.

If it is a fungal infection, the jock itch spray is not strong enough to cure the infection. You need prescription strength anti-fungal medication such as Nystatin Cream.

Fungal infection can cause a miserable hard bump, especially when an infection has been going on for a while.

Best to see a doctor to determine exactly what the problem is.

Sometimes you can have a fungal infection along with a bacterial infection in the folds of skin.

Best to wear loose clothes, no tight jeans, and 100% cotton underwear.

For control of fungal infection I use Nystatin Cream twice a day along with AF Zezorb Powder in folds of skin. Using a hair dryer to dry the folds off an on helps too since fungus likes warmth and moisture.

thanks all, i figured that the lymph node was a reaction to the fungus. the fungus is responding to the lamisil after one week, but the node is still there. also i had some exercise today and now it is kind of aching, which is understand is common for enlarged nodes. i'll give it another week and if its still there i'll make an appointment. thanks for assuring me its nothing god awful serious, i can get a little carried away sometimes. it actually does seem a little smaller today....

Glad to hear the fungus is improving. As I said it can take a while for the node to go down after the infection has cleared, sometimes once a node has enlarged it never returns to its original size.

bump is definitely significantly smaller than it was. seems as if the crisis has passed. it is barely noticeable now, and as you said, it might never completely shrink. thanks for calming me down. : )
