Happy Tree Friends

Yes, it's (mostly) a Web based series, but isn't animation animation?

I admit it, I actually kinda like Happy Tree Friends. I guess it's just something about the clash of the cute, Care Bears-esque designs and the exaggerated gory deaths they all suffer. The deaths all seem so unexpected, too. Some types of gore make me cringe (e.g. the Scott Tenorman episode of South Park) but for some reason, HTF doesn't bother me in the least.

Anyone else like this series at all?

I tried to watch a few eps, and the animation really is pretty good for a web toon, but...it just feels like the exact same joke repeated over and over, and some of the gore really does get to me (like Lumpy's horrible decay in Blind Date).

I kinda liked the Splendid Ka-pow! episode, though.

It's a good show to watch if you're in the mood for seeing cute, furry animals getting horribly maimed and killed... and I'm always in that mood.

So, yes, I like it, and don't ask me to defend that opinion, 'cuz I don't know how to.

I have lost interest in the series, but I used to be a huge fan. I still have an autographed script and storyboard, along with a bunch of merchandise they sent me for helping them crack down on people who uploaded their shorts onto YouTube. I still believe that the television series was far better than any of the shorts, but it bombed in the ratings and got cancelled. They shopped around but they couldn’t find another network to pick it up.

I remember the first time when I saw HTF back in '07. I was bored and I was looking through "G4 on Demand" when I saw something called "Happy Tree Friends & Friends" and I saw the cute kiddish looking animals what I saw after was truly unexpected. It became an instant favorite. The first sketch I saw of it was with Snuffles the Ant Eater and he was sick and tried to eat some ants. Later in the episode the ants turn the tables on Snuffles and he winds with nails in his mouth and a bowling ball to the head.

My favorite episodes are when the Happy Tree Friends are all on an abondoned Isleand, Luffy vs. The Zombie Happy Tree friends (which referenced the Evil Dead Trilogy), and Double Whammy, where Flippy fights his inner demon. His Ka-POW episode was pretty cool to.

The animation has greatly improved over time. The only thing I don't like that much is in current episodes Flippy's sane voice is squeaky like all the other Happy Tree Friends when the old episodes were around Flippy had a deep voice when he was sane and flipped out.

The television series had more substance. I guess that was forced upon them since they had to stretch each segment out to seven minutes and there were only so many characters that they could kill. They relied more on character interactions and plots, which is quite a feat considering there is no understandable dialogue.

I liked it for about a week or two after I discovered it. Quickly got over it, but it's not like I hate it or anything. Just not as interesting as it was initially.

I pretty much never watch this show. It's just boring and how they hurt (or shall I say kill) is just ridiculous. Of course there's a lot a fans but I rather watch Twilight 24 hours than a 24 hour marathon of them. I tryed to watch but it is simply boring....

The only short that ever made me turn away from the screen in disgust and want to vomit was the one where the father bear is giving the baby bear a haircut, and junior ends up swallowing the electric razor. The visual combined with the gurgling sound effect was enough to make me shut the window.

Other than that one particular instance, I always loved watching HTF. I never saw the t.v. show, though, as I just assumed it was the web shorts packaged for television, but now I'll have to check it out if they ever come back to the air.

The TV show is nothing more than just three episodes put into 30 minute slot. But before it was Happy Tree Friends & Friends where episodes of HTF were shown and other flashed based gags hence the "& friends".

Mondomedia has there own official youtube channel where you can view episodes of HTF and HTF has it's own official site where you can view every episode.

You are incorrect about that. The television series was entirely new content; they had a much larger budget and the animation was better because it was handled by the now defunct FatKat Animation Studios. They also brought Ken Pontac on-board as a writer because he had experience in television; he co-created “Bump In The Night” and worked on “ReBoot” as well.

Wikipedia has a list of the episodes that were created for the television series.

I think Mondo Media has had most of them on their website at this point. They have “Double Whammy” on their front page right now, and that was the season finale for the television series.

Since I am a huge Itchy & Scratchy fan I figured this would be up my alley. But for some reason I am not sure how to explain, this series didn't work for me. I don't hate it nor do I love it.

Well the gore and violence does not annoy me seeing as it's a cartoon, and quite obviously not one that even takes itself seriously as the injured/dead beasts resurrect themselves in later episodes as in Itchy and Scratchy. The plots are quite creative but i would agree with those who say it gets repetitive after a while, and whilst i enjoyed watching it, it doesn't stack up well against many newer cartoons, even Brandy and Mr Whiskers i prefer to it.
