Happy Feet 2 to be Made in Sydney

The Age is reporting that Warner Bros. Pictures will make Happy Feet 2 at a new digital production facility in Sydney, Australia.

NSW Minister of State Development Ian Macdonald revealed on Sunday that the George Miller-directed sequel will employ an average of 438 people over three years. They will include some 230 computer-generated imaging artists.

Miller praised the government's assistance package and the "Dr D" facility, which he said had already attracted a number of big budget international film projects in the planning or pre-production stage.

"This incentive by the NSW government is a significant step. It allows us to make 'Happy Feet 2' in Sydney and it will be the first of many productions from our new digital studio, Dr D," he said in a statement.

"It helps us in our attempts to attract substantial foreign investment which will create hundreds of high-end, highly skilled jobs as well as nurture the careers of many people coming out of our educational institutions who would otherwise have no place to grow their talents."

Not like I hated the first movie (I found it quite enjoyable really) but it kinda ended pretty conclusively. I mean where else can they go from her.

What's it gonna be about? Saving the world through tap-dancing? I can't really see how they'll make a somewhat decent follow-up... I mean, the first movie was GREAT, spectacular and awesome... until the second half when it just sort of self-died (along with everyone watching it)

I'm not too surprised that they're making a sequel. I don't know how the movie ended since I've never seen the film myself, but since the movie was pretty successful, a sequel was bond to happen. Whether or not it will be a decent sequel is something that we'll have to wait and see about.

They aren't necessary, but Happy Feet is one of the most intelligent CGI films in a while and I won't protest to a sequel if it has a strong enough follow up. It was a very well done movie that balanced entertainment with more serious issues such as penguin conservating. :)

I have to echo what others have said here; the original Happy Feet was enjoyable enough, but the story was conclusively ended. I don't see what else they can do with those characters. There's really no reason for a Happy Feet 2 other than a desire to feed the cash cow.

Happy Feet was an OK movie, not great, but OK. However, the story of Mumble really didn't warrant a sequel. Mumble's story was pretty much told; he's already found his place in the world, so what else could the producers possibly do with the characters? There's obviously no reason to make a sequel to Happy Feet except that the 1st one made a lot of money. If Shakespeare were alive and writing now, his producers would make a sequel to Romeo & Juliet, despite the fact that both title characters died in the end.

The Madagascar Penguins already got a video and Surf's Up doesn't warrant a sequel either, but I don't doubt that it's producers won't try to make one anyway.

I lol'd.

Seriously, we've had 14,398 animal movies in the past 5 years, but it would be nice to some variations in the species. Why not a romp of otters? Otters are very underused in animation, and even when they are used almost nobody does them right (such as the stupid otter from Brandy & Mr. Whiskers).

There is only one way to make a sequel for this movie...a next generation. A story about Mumble's kids, and how they go off into the world to get all the fish back (since they went missing...again).
