Tomorrow is my birthday - not saying which one!
I'm taking Monday off for a long weekend in which to celebrate
being old and decrepit.
Tonight I'm going to stop at Vincent's Pizza Park in Forest
Hills and pick up a large sausage pizza which will be consumed
over the next week. I know I'm probably weird but I prefer my
pizza "reheated". I put a couple of slices on a baking sheet
and heat until they get all crispy around the edges and the
crust is nice and brown and crunchy.
Vincent's is a unique kind of pizza place. They've been around
for over 50 years. They're an institution in the Pittsburgh area.
People either love them or really hate them. Back in the early 70's -
before I moved to CA - I discovered them. Someone told me about the
place. It was a good 10-12 miles from where I lived but once I had
tried the pizza I would drive out there as often as possible for the
best pizza I ever had. When I was living in CA and would come back
for a visit one of the first things I did was go to Vincent's and get a
pizza. (The other thing was go to Mancini's bakery and get many loaves
of the the world's best Italian bread - some to eat here and some to
take back to CA with me.)
The pizza is thick crusted. Not like a deep dish pizza. It's a
regular style of pizza but the crust is thick and chewy and crusty
at the edges. There is a big fat ring of crust. It's like a really
good dense chewy rustic type of bread with a very crunchy crust.
And the sausage is to die for. It is *not* those horrid pre-fab
"sausage" pellets most places use. They throw on big irregular gobs
of really good bulk Italian sausage. To die for.
And they use a ton of cheese. When I reheat the slices the cheese
melts and runs off the slice and makes these crispy cheese "skirts".
I'm also going to get a Baskin Robbins birthday cake. I got
a "birthday" coupon for $3 off. I'm getting the devils food cake
with Cherries Jubilee ice cream on top. Can't wait. I'm going to
have a sinful weekend.
Then tomorrow for lunch I'm going to a local Chinese buffet that I like
with my aunt, my cousin, and one of my best friends. (Unfortunately
that will be after I go to get some blood work done. I *hate* needles!
I will need a good lunch to revive my spirits after that!)
So, I know everyone will miss me terribly on Monday - although I might
check in from home as I now have a laptop at home. Try to deal with
it until I return on Tuesday. ;-)
