I want to move my stock handlebars on my 09 EGC up (toward the fairing) about 2 inches to try to improve riding comfort. I checked the manual and it seems straight forward but it doesn

All you have to do is pop the switch and take off the little plastic panel. This will get you access to the rear bar mount bolts. You should be able to get them loose enough to move the bars. The front bolts may require you to pull the front faring off and pull the radio.

When the dealer put mine back together they didn't re-torque the bolts and they came loose. I had a local indy stop over and do mine as I didn't want to have to mess with the switch. He told me that as long as you are just pulling it in and out in a situation like this it would drop back in. It took him 15 minutes to take it out, re-torque the bars and put it back together.

do a search on ignition switch here and you can find the video on taking it in and out and how to make a tool out of 1/4 inch copper tubing to line everything back up. I made a tool and it works like a champ.

Thanks for the info. I did find the video on the switch removal and what a great video it is. I'll do the adjustment when I come back from my weekend trip to the Woodstock Museum.

Thanks for all your help

good info guys.....i've been thinking about "adjusting" the bars on my 2010 Street Glide, and was wondering how involved it would be.. Thanks again.

On mine...i needed a cut down allen wrench or a "ball end allen" to turn the lower bolts...switch came apart and back together no problem....only need to remove the panel under the switch...not the inner or outer fairing....

ok.. i made the tool... got the ignition off...good video ...very helpfull

but now how do i get the plastic off???? there is a silver metal piece on top of t\where the ignition was that wont allow the small plastic horseshoe shaped piece to slide over it.

do i pop that off somehow? does the horseshoe shaped piece have to come off seperate from the larger piece that is attahed to the forks with 2 bolts on the sides?

man i feel like a reterd... HELP !

Good point. I have not had a chance to take the ignition switch off but by watching the video I did notice what appeared to be a chrome nut. I do know that on the sides of the panel are two bolts that must be removed. I had assumed that this would have released the lower panel to access the two allen screws. I looked through the manual and couldn't find any info on the detail you mentioned.
