Halloween Remake (Production photos)

I'm actually pleasantly surprised with how surpurb these stills are! I too am generally skeptical when it comes to remakes, though one thing I do know is that Rob Zombie is more than capable of delivering decent gooRAB!

Not sure what to make of this to be honest. The original Halloween was a classic in every sense of the word. That said whereas Scream is said to have breathed new life into the horror genre, as someone else alluded to further up, it also virtually turned it into one giant cliche of slasher stalking dumb teens. Even the Halloween franchise itself had fallen into this trap by time Halloween: H20 and Halloween: Resurrection came along.

If people are going to tamper with the franchise, maybe it is better to go back and re-imagine the beginning rather than add another ludicrous tale at the end. Starting again can work - Casino Royale seems to have re-invigorated the Bond franchise (although Daniel Craig may have helped to). I think based on the trailer this movie is going to be a worthwhile pursuit. However I do wonder whether in a way it is an exercise in futility. The original is (justifiably) held in very high regard. Is it inevitable this film will come off looking second best? Probably, but I am still looking forward to it.

Just got back from watching it. It was basically what i expected: Average. I quite liked the first 30-40 minutes or so where it gave Michael some back story, but once he arrived in Haddonfield it just went drastically downhill into a generic teen slasher movie that made loose homages to the highly superior original. I thought Laurie Strode's character was also poor in this film ("i know, in order to escape from a maniacal killer i'll crawl around in the ceiling! He'll never look there!"). I'm not offended by bad language, but none of it seemed necessary, particularly at the beginning where every other word seemed to be "f*ck". It just stank of poor film making where Zombie obviously thought sex, violence and foul language sells tickets, although thanks to the film getting an 18 certificate he seems to have missed out on the pubescent gore hounRAB that help get these types of brainless slasher films to number one.

Compare this to the original where there is only rare use of language and minimal blood and you begin to see just how pointless all the added stuff seems.

Still, on the plus side it's definitely better than the abysmal 'Halloween Resurrection', and Malcolm McDowell is very good in the role of Dr Loomis.

5/10

The film in sense of importance will be second best as the original is not only artistically great it is historically important to film.
But this seems to be a completely different movie in everything apart from the plot and the mask.
From what I can gather it is going to be extremely realistic violence and story which could make it down right disturbing whereas the original was just downright scary/jumpy.

I look at it last this, there were bound to be more Halloween movies, this way someone is in control who cares about making a good horror movie as opposed to weak cash in.

The workprint is much better than the crap theatrical version. Only thing I disliked about the workprint was the Rape scene. Glad they removed that in the cinema release. Although that ****ed up the escape scene and that was poorly reshot.

I didnt mind the rape scene because seeing as it was basically a M.Myers biography movie it fitted in with the idea of him being partly the product of a f**ked up world.
Bullying, suicide, abuse ect,so I found witnessing rape fitted in well.
I too preferred the workprint escape to the formulatic released on.

Which I think is a shame. The power of the original didn't come from the violence, as you say it came from the scares and high tension that kept the audience on the edge of their seats. I know this is a re-imagining, not necessarily a true re-make. However I think certain things should be left the way there where, and the lack of violence in favour of tension is one of them.

I agree. The original Halloween (and even Halloween II) has/have to a certain extent been overshadowed by their sequels. People look at the Halloween series and see a run of increasingly inferior sequels. Maybe this new film will re-dress the balance, by returning to the original.

Just a thought, has anyone heard whether they are re-doing Halloween II seen as the Halloween I & II are effectively the same story split over two parts?

This is one film other than Harry Potter that I am seriously looking forward to!
Might have to dig out my old Halloween DVRAB and watch them all again :D

It's been leaked.
There is a dvd quality workprint out already,on the usual torrent sites and such. They say in forums there is a few deaths missing and the ending is perhaps different as it is the first print.

Me myself will not watch it though as I promised I'd see it cinema and I'm still faithfull to my fav horror franchise.

But I caught the first few mins on a web sceening out of curiosity and have to say it does look good from what I viewed.Actually feels like a Halloween movie for first time in years. But I only saw a few mins,so...

Hi could you actually tell me the difference in the workprint to the actual released film? Does Michael witness hiss mother getting raped?
I might make me understand how the escape once intended to be. Thanks:)

This is getting ridiculous now. Remaking The Goonies, Hellraiser, Halloween, Friday 13th, Elm Street (although that might be a sequel/prequel), The Fog, Omen, etc. Surely someone has new ideas?

Good news for anyone looking forward to seeing this film, the release date has been brought forward to 28th September. I've just seen it advertised on the side of a bus, so if advertising has started, it's unlikely to be moved again.

On another note does anyone know when this released?

Nothing on IMDB and judging by the last one's it will be late Oct again here.
Which is a shame as I love the Halloween series and I want to see this in cinema, but with all the piracy around it will be hard to resist having a look. It's no wonder Hollywood is losing money to piracy when they have such gaps between release dates.

Ha Ha I never realised that you could read the spoilers. I thought they were deleted for a reason (duh):D
Reading that I now realise what is really lacking in the film. There is no being watched and stalked. It takes away all the creepiness of the original.
Though even as a murderer you still feel a bit of sympathy to him when he passes Boo the picture of them together. You just want her to sort of recognise something, but she has never been told about him. I found that bit strange considering the original he is hell out bent on killing Laurie.
