Halloween movie series - discuss

My friend has invested in all 8 Halloween movies on DVD (a couple are still coming in the post, not quite released)

We have been sitting down in the evenings to work our way through them, having NEVER watched them before. Last night we watched No. 4.

Firstly, can anyone tell me how each movie did as it came out? In particular, No. 3, which has NOTHING to do with Michael Myers? This had us totally baffled. Did it do well or badly? Did they do No. 4 in response to public outcry?

We really enjoyed 4, especially the end when Jamie follows in her uncle's footsteps. I thought the little girl who played her was a superb actress - can anyone tell me if she has done anything since? I assume she is a grown actress now, seeing as that was 1988.

Hopefully watching 5 tonight. 6 is on order. H20 sitting waiting for us to watch it, and Resurrection on order. Hear they are planning H9! I am totally hooked now. All comments gratefully appreciated! But please, no spoilers. We are looking forward to watching each movie in the correct order.

:D

She's Danielle Harris and she's quite prolific, although I remember her best as the foul-mouthed Darian Hallenbeck in 'The Last Boy Scout'.

BTW I envy your friend and their entire collection of Halloween dvRAB.
:)

Thanks for that.

Yes there's something very satisfaying about collecting an entire movie series on DVD. I have all 7 Nightmare on Elm Street movies and can't wait for Freddy Vs Jason to be released. Don't get a chance to go to the flicks, so have to wait (im)patiently for DVD releases. Also have all 6 Hellraiser movies, which I love.

My friend intenRAB to collect the Friday 13th series next. Haven't even started looking yet. I wonder if they are all on DVD! Again, we have never watched any of them, apart from the first one, way back when we were teenagers.

Where did you get Freddy's Dead (Nightmare On Elm Street Part 6) from on dvd? I've looked for it recently and it's unavailable on dvd apparently in the Uk.

Also is it the 3D version or the normal one?

i LOVE the first one and the only other one i've seen is H20 which i also enjoyed-I'm not scared of michael though like I am of Freddy :o I can't watch the Nightmare on elm st by myself or i get seriously freaked out

Yeah, I bought mine from Play - wonderful site!

Watched No. 5 on Saturday. Brilliant! Intrigued by the guy with the steel toecaps who kept creeping around - I suppose his identity is revealed in No. 6, which has not yet arrived....

I agree that Michael Myers does not scare me, but the films are great. I was never really into slasher movies before, but I'm hooked now.

Saw "Valentine" last week, and thoroughly enjoyed that, but was MEGA p***ed off that the killer's identity was given away on the blurb on the back cover. I could throttle the person that did that!

It's years since I've seen it but I seem to remember loving part three.

"Two more days till Halloween, Halloween, Halloween, Sil-ver Sham-rock" :)

Yes, I agree - I loved that jingle. But WHY was it Halloween 3??? It was a perfectly good movie in its own right and did not need to jump on that bandwagon. My friend and I were totally baffled last week - we were expecting Michael Myers to start slashing at everyone again, and instead we got a toy maker who had invented these killer robots and Halloween masks that would disolve every kid's brain that wore them. Gruesome, fun, but NOT a Halloween movie. I'm still lost on how they made it as a Halloween movie. Weird. Pity I didn't take an interest at the time, but back then I was totally into the Alien movies and anything starring either Arnie or Sly! Went nuts over the Robocop movies. I remember being thrown out of a pub after seeing the first one, for "shooting" someone with a bar stool as if I were the earlier model that protected the building when Robo went to save the day. But that's another story. I'm older and calmer now. Still, got the Robocop trilogy plus the 4 TV movies and the TV series pilot on VCD (original, NOT pirate), so I still appreciate Sci-Fi as well. Plus I got the Alien trilogy and most of Arnie's stuff (not the comedies), although I think the only Sly movie I've got is Daylight, cos I really have grown tired of him.

BFN!

Apparently, John Carpenter wanted to stop the Michael Myers movies at two and turn the Halloween franchise into a series of completely seperate horror stories by different directors. The fans didn't like it so Carpenter left and another producer resurrected Michael Myers.

Last night we watched No. 6 - tonight it'll be H20. They tried to pack too much explanation into No. 6 for my liking. Why come up with this silly Thorne cult who have groomed Michael for his outings when the stars align in a certain shape???

Found it very disappointing. Most usless explanation ever. Better off just ignoring the fact that he only raises his head on Halloween every few years, and no-one evers sees him in between times. Or wondering why he is always cleanly dressed, instead of running naked and wild as he would probably be doing in reality (Reality - what's that?)

I have high hopes for H20 - hope it lives up to my expectations!
