resurrection is generally perceived as the worst (and that's saying something). so bad it stopped the franchise dead

Seriously!
Surely nothing can top highly influential,greatly acted,and perfectly directed original?
I personally hated H8 what with Busta Rymes in that annoying lead role,the predictibility,the cheesey cliched dialogue and the appallingly melodramatic sendoff to one of the greatest ever scream queens.At least the nasty Halloween 3 tried something different (to it's detriment).
The worst thing is how Dimension dumbed down the horror and gore so they could get a lower certificate internationally.
To me the Halloween movies rank like this:

Halloween H20
Halloween 4
Halloween (2007)
Halloween 2
Halloween 5
Halloween 6
Halloween 3
Halloween 8

I'm not optimistic about this. Rob Zombie's first Halloween film was rubbish.
As for Resurrection, I always thought it got an unfair deal. It's no masterpiece but it's not the abomination it's made out to be either. I'd rank the sequels like this:
Halloween II: the only good sequel
Halloween 4/5: average
Halloween Resurrection: the opening segment with Laurie is great, the Dangertainment part with Busta Rhymes is average
Halloween III: soooooooooo strange
Halloween H20: Dawson's Creek meets Scream - yeuch!
Halloween 6: wow, they really lost the plot here
