Halifax charge hikes: so much for the little guy in a recession?

Not so much a straight forward question, more of a prompt for a discussion. I have just had the latest update from Halifax. The formerly worthwhile overdraft facility has just outlived its usefulness. From costing a nominal amount which was affordable, arranged overdrafts have just gone up to a £1 a day for arranged overdrafts up to £1500, more if higher. Bye bye Halifax, that's what I say. Anyone with me?
That's very good for you and your girlfriend, but it does not reflect the reality for many people, individuals as well as businesses. This is really a discussion about those with overdrafts, not really for those who are forunate not to need them.
At rates up to a 100%? Well, if you are a Halifax customer, feel free to stay with them, let me know how they are doing from time to time.

Actually, if you budget your money properly, have cash saved for emergencies then you don't have to worry about the change in fees. My girlfriend has lived for many years without overdrafting because she keeps very good control over her money down to the penny. I know of a lot of others that do the same thing.
