Half way point in MLB , and the Pittsburgh Pirates are in contention! How long

No fading for this team this season, they have played hard so far this year. I see the Pirates in the race until the last couple of weeks, 3rd place finish around and above .500 about 3 or 4 games back. if they keep the nucleus of their teams together in the next couple of years, they will contend for a playoff spot.

before they fade? Central W L Pct GB
St. Louis Cardinals 44 38 .537 --
Milwaukee Brewers 44 38 .537 --
Pittsburgh Pirates 41 39 .512 2.0
Cincinnati Reds 42 40 .512 2.0
Chicago Cubs 34 48 .415 10.0
Houston Astros 29 53 .354 15.0

Ha. I just posted a similar question. I think they'll make the playoffs. It will take 2 things. 1. A bat. 2. Don't trade your closer. But seeing how this team played other good teams tough, Red Sox and Phillies most notably, makes me think they can win the worse division in baseball.

No fade, the other teams aren't playing very well just now.

Just keep racking up wins against Cubs and Astros...then play .500 against the others. They could finish over .500, which would be amazing.

This Pirates team could conceivably finish around .500. I think it will be more about either the Cardinals, Brewers, and/or Reds pulling away from the pack. Although it's possible their pitchers will wear down and finish off weak, which will become apparent sometime in August.
