Had enough/swollen stomach after gall bladder surgery

I had emergency gall bladder surgery on 10/29/09 and ERCP on 10/30/09 and crashed during the ERCP due to low blood pressure.

I still feel very nausous and still have the pain in my stomach, like i am going to have the alein baby at any moment. Sometimes the pain is in the left or the right side under the ribs.

I am also having problems with my belly button where they made the cut, i still think the doctor did something wrong on the inside because it hurts so bad i have to hold my belly so it won't move.

I have had so many test and each doctor sends me to another one. I can't afford this and i can't keep taking off from work. Of cousre they can't find anything wrong. I am still feeling the same symptons as before the surgery and wished i never had to have it done.

I only make it because Prilosec OTC; i do not get dierrea very often, but i am more so constipated and take 2 stool softners each day for that.
Is there any hope??
I am ready to give it up!

Sounds like you have IBS. I have gone through all the same procedures within the past 15 years. I am now suffering with IBS c and d. Try taking a probotic like one of those yogurts or Align. There are several on the market now. I do have good days now but believe me, my gastro and I became very good friends.;) Feel better

Doctor ruled out IBS and Celiac and crohns. But thank you for your reply. I am trying different things, but i sure wish my stomach would go down. I gained 20 pounds since i got sick.
Go figure????

Try Citrucel to help with the bloating, that is what my internist suggested to me after gallbladder surgery. Avoid fat, you no longer have a stored supply of bile to digest them..

Probiotics will also help, I take PB8 found at the VitaminShop.

A stitch may have pulled loose near the navel causing the pain. Have you had an MRI or catscan to help find the real problem?

I take Miralax plus stool softeners to control constipation.

Thank you Misty 800 so much, just knowing that i am not alone helps, but i feel i am at my wits end.
I still don't know why my belly feels swollen and hurts when i walk, i well find this out if it is the last thing that i do. I know the surgeon done something i just don't know how to go about to prove it, i think the other doctors are coving this up????? This is what is feels like.
I don't understand the weight gain. I went into surgery 110 and came out so big and swollen and it still is and i weight 130 now.
I feel like crying about that and i can't excercise until i figure out what is wrong with the belly button.

Thanks again!!

I'm so sorry about this! I've also been struggling with my weight and getting my stomach back after abdominal surgery to remove two hernias. Although my surgery was different than yours, it's enough alike to understand that it's hard getting your body back! I am wondering if they stretched out my stomach muscles and separated them as they had to to get to the hernias. I thought they cut through them, but ever since, I can't get my abs flat if I do any lower ab exercises. I get a pooch that feels hard, and makes me feel like I look a few months pregnant. I am able to work out now, but I realized it was much better for me to stick to workouts that are a little easier and to watch my diet. I'm going to stop doing lower ab workouts right now to see if that helps!

Unfortunately I've heard that some people have symptoms from stomach surgery for some time. I have some numb spots and heard it can take up to 2 years for those to go away, if ever! I'd imagine it can be the same with pain... it can take a long time unfortunately.

I can't offer exact advice on the situation (and it looks like you've got some good replies to start off with), but I WOULD recommend that in the future, look up a doctor on your own instead of going to one you get referred to. I find that you can get a good NEW opinion this way since they don't work with the other doctors in any way. I totally understand the money issue since medical costs can add up, so this is just advice for whenever you can go.

I'm actually looking into some kind of support band for the stomach if I can't get things under control. I wonder if it would be possible for you as well. I was looking into the Belly Bandit, typically used for women after giving birth, especially from C-section surgery. My incisions were very similar to a C-section and about the same size, so I was immediately interested. I've heard of women using this band or similar ones for other abdominal surgeries too! It offers good support and helps you shrink back your belly. I'd look into it! It might help be supportive so you have less pain.
