Had an epidural with the new doc yesterday

It was VERY painful and he promised me he would double the amount of Versed starting out next time, said he could see I have a lot of inflammation near the area he was trying to inject. It bought me 12-13 hours of pain relief and I am back to hurting very badly. I am so down and depressed about all this.
 
Hi, please try not to be too down yet, as one can have worsening pain for 1 to 2 days after an ESI. And the steroiRAB can take a few days to start kicking in. It is true that ESI's dont' help everyone but there are many the shots do help. One can feel really good right after the shot, but then when the anesthetic wears off, it can hurt. I can't say for sure, but that might be what's going on with you right now so don't give up all hope just yet. Try to hang in there another day or 2 and see how you feel - and I do hope the shot does end up giving you some relief.
 
Yes, I absolutely agree with Baybreeze. The relief you felt initially has to do with the nurabing agents and then you will have an increase of pain anywhere from 1 to 3 days generally. Then hopefully you will see a decrease in pain. If not, you may require a 2nd injection. If it does not work after 2 injections then I would personally not have the third. However, some people actually experience relief and I pray that one this initial pain wears down that you will have many months of relief.

With the other pain management doctor I was going to, I was having an injection every other month so in total I have had probably 6 or 7 of them.
 
The rule is that you should have no more than 3 injections in one area. I would make sure that you doctor realizes how many injections you have had.
 
Wow, that is alot of injections. I just went to my PM the other day for another follow-up. Again I told him the injections seem to work best for me, but I wasn't in severe pain and the Soma and Lyrica have been toning down my nerve pains and spasms. He even said (again) that he didn't really want to give me any more ESI's right now b/c it would be too much, which I knew and agreed. It's also the same for people who get cortizone shots into muscles or tendons, they shouldn't be done too often either or it could end up causing damage.
