Gwar..... no

Take metal seriously? What are you talking about. From my perspective metal has ALWAYS been a tad bit tongue in cheek. That's what's cool about being a Metalhead. You get a joke that 90% of the rest of the world fails to.

Metal, at it's core, is, has been, and always will be about having fun. That's why it's not emo.

I mean, do you take Cannibal Corpse, and Slayer seriously?

I don't like their music, but I wonder if a live show of theirs would be worth going to. Supposed to be crazy, which is probably what the red dye is about.

if i'm going to get a custom GWAR coffee mug made i'm going to take a freaking coffee mug to a show and have oderus smash it to pieces so i can put it back together with whatever spews out from the cuttlefish of cthulhu.

$10 so someone can glue a sticker to the side of a cup doesn't cut it.

OK I can understand why people would go & see them live , but as entertainment not for the music.

I don`t understand why anyone would want to listen to an album by them

Cartoonish shock value. It's not that much above what GWAR does, really. Slayer may have been a tad more interesting musically back in their prime, but one has to find the extents of shock value in Slayer lyrics/imagery are very obviously done for a humorous reactionary value. Cannibal Corpse, even more so.

It's very obvious that neither write their music from the heart or any other emotional source. They write their music to shock, mortify, and offend people. Both Slayer, and Cannibal Corpse in themselves are satires.

Well then, if Cannibal Corpse are a bad joke, as some figments of metal, why isn't it a valid thing to parody?

I think the fact that certain figments of metal are self conscious, and aware enough to parody the concept is proof of a sophisticated minRABet. Frankly, the reason why metal is not taken seriously has nothing to do with GWAR, but rather metalheaRAB who take themselves too seriously.

Hating GWAR for the music is like hating Spinal Tap for the music. It's completely missing out on the point. I think if you hate anybody you people should be hating the serious "glam" acts who act like GWAR, and think they are relevant, and should be taken seriously.
