I am very late in seeing this film. I tried to get hold of it when I first heard about it but one way or the other I never did. Recently though I have signed up to Blockbuster online and this was one of my rentals.
I heard about this film in 2005 on the Mark Kermode film program on Five Live and was very interested in seeing it. I don't want to give too much away so I will try to give as breif a description as possible. Rudy Spruance (played by Jason Biggs) is dumped onto an island in Arctic, he has a different name, he doesn't know where he is and as far as he is concerned he should be in Hawaii. It is set in the times of the Vietnam but all around him no war is actually taking place, all the soilders on the island seem to basically have nothing to do and they are not told exactly why they have nothing to do.
The film continues to go on to what the darker secret is (I don't want to say what the secret is but from all accounts what happens is actually quite close to the truth) but again no-one is told.
I don't want to go into anymore because I feel it may ruin it but I really enjoyed this film and would urge people to see it. It seemed to get flack on iMBD as per that nothing happens and that there is no real pay off in the end but from what I could gather that was exactly the point.
