"Gurren Lagann" On Sci-Fi's Ani-Monday Block - Talkback *MAJOR SPOILERS*

"Later, buddy." Nice delivery.

All right. That was pretty great. That's what we should've had a week ago.

My understanding is that right after this or soon after, we have a time skip, so hopefully Simon mans up a bit and we have some post-Kamina awesomeness. Episodes 1-6 seemed to be mostly chaos. Occasionally fun chaos, but chaos. These two were in a different league, as if they finally put the foot down and decided to deliver hot-blooded excellence from start to finish.

That final attack was awesome. Scratch one spiral general.

...except you missed the part where Kamina gets supremely angry and beats up the bath-house Gunmen with Gurren's sunglasses. It's even better in the uncensored one when his entire motivation of the episode is to get over the wall just so he can see some fanservice, and when Dog-lady continually denies him at every turn, he finally loses it and destroys the thing out of sheer spite. "I'll See What I Wanna See!!" indeed.

You lucky bastard.
You lucky, lucky bastard.
Proper little jailer's pet, aren't we?
You must have slipped him a few shekels, eh?
They must think the sun shines outta your arse, sonny.

These anti-Spirals must be a lot of fun at parties.

Emphasis on "bxxxx", Yoko. Emphasis on "bxxxx".

Ah... the infamous episode four... the only bad episode in the entire series. Or at least that's what people tell me; I've never thought it was particularly bad.

Thank God. If there's one manga I've been dying to have in my collection, it's Gurren Lagann. I sure hope that it doesn't disappoint unlike the Digimon manga based from seasons 1-3 that were previously released by Tokyopop.

How are the DVRAB coming along since the, I believe, first box set, is in the works for reease sometime near the end of the year?

My sister, who is an aspiring artist, absolutely adores the animation in this series, except for this episode(4). It's complete crap, totally unlike the animation in every other episode. It's also the least important episode in the series, barring Kittan and his sisters.

Basically EVERYONE looks off model, and the animation is so horribly rough. Was this ep a joke by the animators or something?

From what I've heard, it won't. Actually going by the clips of the original version I've been watching for the past few weeks, it looks to run completely on awesome and epic.

Gurren Lagann: Making reruns epic through fighting spirit.

Last week Simon and Kamina were confronted once again by the Beastmen, but Viral was the least of their problems. They attracted the wrath of one of the Spiral King's four great generals, Thymilph. Armed with an army of loyal minions and the mighty mobile fortress Dai-Ganzan, the Beastman general nearly ripped Gurren Lagann apart. Fortunately the heroic duo were saved by the timely arrival of Kittan, accompanied by fellow resistance fighters that had managed to capture Gunmen of their own. Thanks to their help and a clever plan from Simon, the heroes were able to fend off the attack.

Having earned a brief respite, Kamina names the newly gathered resistance force Team Dai-Gurren and leaRAB a bold attack against the reeling Beastmen forces. The plan is simple: team Dai-Gurren distracts the main forces, allowing Simon to use the Lagann to take over Dai-Ganzan. Unfortunately, distracted by heartbreak over his observation of a budding romance between Kamina and Yoko, Simon is unable to complete the takeover. Kamina soon arrives to give him a much-needed punch in the teeth, exhorting Simon to have confidence in himself.

Simon succeeRAB, but everyone is horrified when Kamina suffers a grevious wound at the hanRAB of Thymilph immediately afterwarRAB. Simon's grief threatens to send the Dai-Ganzan out of control, but Kamina rises again and manages to reform Gurren Lagann with Simon. United once more, the pair completely annihilate Thymilph and his army in a single glorious assault.

But on that day, Team Dai-Gurren lost something that they cannot replace. Their leader, Kamina, had died in the miRABt of victory.

Tonight, the survivors must cope and carry on. Here's the schedule as listed on scifi.com:

11 PM: Just what exactly is human?
11:30 PM: Who really was your big brother?

I think there are printing issues in general when it comes to BEI-published manga right now. The GL manga isn't alone, there's other manga like the recent Code Geass manga that are technically released but are listed as shipping "within 1-2 months." It's hard to say when the demand issue will be solved and the shipping delays will cease. We'll just have to be patient.

Thanks for answering my question, GWOtaku. It's just weird that Gurren Lagann manga Volume 2 is scheduled for a release for June 15th on the Barnes and Noble website and we've yet to see Volume 1 in stores. I know I'll get Set 03 on DVD next month to get my GL fix for the summer but I wanted to get something to read during that time as well.

I wonder if the problem with the manga could also affect the art books whether or not they make their way to American shores.
