"Gurren Lagann" On Sci-Fi's Ani-Monday Block - Talkback *MAJOR SPOILERS*

GaoGaiGar started a lot slower. The idea with GGG was that it was using the traditional mecha team setup Evangelion de-constructed and reconstructed it, while Gurren is going for a more open, original story of sorts. The cast of characters and mecha seems a lot smaller too.

All we've seen so far is the titular mecha in Gurren, while GGG had a corabiner robot, and a support team made up of Autobots, plus a transforming Macross-style battleship...

That ending was beautiful and so dang sad. Simon got the girl yet lost her in the end, Nia's fate was too vanish =( poor Simon. I'm happy they at least got married in a sense, that makes it much better. And actually Simon and Nia probably will be reunited in the after life most likely just how Simon got to see Kamina again so in a way he still got the girl.

As for the final battle and everything else...they were jaw dropping amazing, I can't figure out how such a strange series about a little boy who was a digger went to a epic mecha robot battle for the fate of the universe.

Gurren Lagann you gave me one heck of a ride, I enjoyed every second of it. I don't even believe there was a episode I did not like. I loved how they showed Simon progress to a young boy to a man who can stand on his own two feet like Kamina. You know I'm kind of happy Kamina died back then because if he did not, Simon would of never grown up as much as he did now.

Kamina's simple lines of "WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM!?" and "YOUR DRILL IS THE DRILL THAT SHALL PIERCE THROUGH THE HEAVENS!" shall not be forgotten in my mind. This series is really worthy of buying the whole thing on a dvd set that's for sure.

Gurren Lagann gets a 10/10 from me, I loved it even with this bitter sweet end.

My only complaint: They need to learn how to draw adults better in this show xD. Simon's adult version was....ehhhh.... a bit too old looking.. and I expected him to be somewhere else. Maybe I was expecting to much out of that?

That drill is indeed the drill that will pierce through the heavens, maybe even through the anime line of awesomness into beyond awesomeness.

Err...he can't grit his teeth if you knock them out of his head.

Oh dear, everything was bright and cheery and all of a sudden there's a hole in your robot where you're supposed to be.

And Simon's in berzerker mode.

I partially agree. It neeRAB to be shown, like here, that to make someone believe in themself, you can`t just bring them down and down, you have to have someone to bring them up and inspire them.

I know a lot of people would have a much higher opinion of themselves if they had someone like Kamina to believe in them, both real and anime.

the Kamina episodes are the slowest ones in the series. after that, it's all uphill from there. if you think this show is good now, just wait til next week... hoo boy.

Yeah, like for example, Kamina's motivation in this episode is completely different. Everything he does, and I mean everything, is driven by his desire to see the girls naked.
He even gives into the villains in order to do so, but he keeps getting thwarted every step of the way. Also, the episode makes a lot more sense. The reason the bad guys were able to even run off with Gurren in the first place was because he got out of it for the chance to see the girls undressed.

It's an utterly ridiculous episode, and so completely different from the TV version that it's mind boggling.

Well since you finally all saw it...

I was really dreading for you guys. The one flaw in keeping the recap episode was showing these two episodes together on the same day. This is truly the worst IMO times of Gurren Lagann in total ******baggery, under-handedness and...

Well, Eva to be exact. Gendo would be proud (or evil and kill Rossiu for taking his place, I don't know.)

But yeah, it really only goes up from here.

Finally someone says the proper way to "un-emo" people! I've pointed this out elsewhere and I just get chastised as an "emo" myself. People think that abusing the "emos" will make the "emos toughen up", when it more often makes them worse. Kamina kicked Simon's ass but he never mocked Simon, he always encouraged him. Even in his dying moments, Kamina kept motivating Simon to the very end. Later on, in her own way, Nia took on that role as well.

This is where the producer's comment of "Simon=Shinji" makes sense. Simon is Shinji, except that Simon throughout his "emo phase" had someone there for him who motivated him and made him stronger and a better person, and helped him move beyond his emoness. Shinji never had that. Perhaps if Misato, Asuka, Toji, or someone else wasn't messed up like everyone else one of them could have been his Kamina or Nia and as a result the entire population of Earth wouldn't have become pea soup.

I am annoyed that "emo" has become a synonym for anything that doesn't fit in cliques in particular. It's become such a feared word that it makes people conform to things they don't want to do and be with people they don't want to hang around with.

There is a huge irony in the Anti-spiral's main thoughts. The reason why so much Spiral Energy, what they fear will destroy the universe, is being generated is because of the threat they themselves pose to the spirals. In short, they're as much to blame as the oens they blame.
