"Gurren Lagann" On Sci-Fi's Ani-Monday Block - Talkback *MAJOR SPOILERS*

It's essentially meant to be a recap movie and generally speaking* those don't improve upon the original source material, outside of cutting down on some filler and adding a new scene or two. The second movie does have more new content but I believe the overall structure remains roughly equivalent too, give or take. Still, it's not something designed to be standalone in either case.

In addition, the reviewer isn't much of a fan of the series either, by his own admission, so at least he's consistent.

*The original Mobile Suit Gundam movie trilogy would be an exception, rather than the rule, plus those are longer than most.

Giant Robo
Gunbuster
Gurren Lagann

That would be it for me, mostly because I haven't actually seen GaoGaiGar.

I'll get around to doing that, but not too soon.

No, just predictable that he's in it. I doubt anyone could have predicted anything that hilarious yet genius. I did predict Kyle Hebert as Kamina and Michelle Ruff as Yoko though.

Don't forget Guilmon.

I personally think the non-badass roles are his request work. He has excellent range, but he's stuck in type cast mode right now. If Gurren becomes the next "Cowboy Bebop," then his icon will be Leeron and he's not in type-cast lirabo.

Personally, Blum as Leeron feels more natural than Todoh, who seems more forced just because he's a famous deep voice.

GL was one wild crazyass ride for a maech show. The last mach show to do that was Megas XRL. A bitter sweet ending but that to be expected in mech shows anyway. Simon walking away was problay more sad then seeing the original pilots of GL dying. However it`s clear that sort of life was not for him. He only put up whit it cause he was in love whit NIA. Now shes gone alone whit his old frienRAB from The original GL crew. There was nothing for him there nor anywhere. Becoming a nomad was the only choice for a old schooler like him. What a guy.
