Guns Laws in NC?

i heard someone at my school say thats no one in the us can own a fully automatic weapon which rellly put a damper on my life becuase my dad is a collects and i would like to get a mp40, mp44, for his birthday and i was wondering if i could i live in North Carolina
 
They are legal in NC but there have been no more automatic weapons made that are purchasable by civilians since 1986 (apart from dealers who sell to police).
