what exactly is an accoustic electric guitar

looking to learn accoustic guitar, does an accoustic electric play like an accoustic but just gives u the option of an electric guitar if you plug it in or is it all bullshit?

Yes, acoustic electric is simply an acoustic guitar with a pickup in it that basically works as a mic so that you can plug it into an amp and play it loud for gigs.
