Guitar Pedals: FUCK YOU!

So, as some may know, I'm a guitarist. I have been for the last 5 years or so. And no guitarist, unless you're just a sheer hobbyist, is complete without effects pedals. I have two, a Digitech Distortion Factory DF-7(distortion pedal), and a Boss PH-3(maybe a PH-3, I dunno; it's a phaser). BOTH OF THESE PEDALS JUST SHIT THE BED ON ME. Within a week timespan, they both quit working. Are you fucking joking?

I was set up to play a talent show at my school? So much for that. Can't do it if I don't have the right distortion, else I'll sound like more of an asshole than anything else.

Playing in a band? Nope. How am I supposed to make reasonable music if my distortion from my amp sounds like fuck?

Covering songs? Yeah, can't do that either, at least not with precision. My amp has 2 channels, lead and rhythm. To switch, I have to press this little button with my finger, and I can't really do that when I'm supposed to be playing something immediately after the transition from distorted to clean, or vise-versa.

This fucking sucks ass, dude. Both pedals run anywhere from 80-130 bucks. I'm going to try to fix them myself, but if I can't, looks like I'm up shit creek without a paddle. :thumbsdn:

Or, y'know, an acoustic guitarist.

P.S. Both the guitarists in my band have foot switches that came with their amps to switch channels on the fly, in addition to the button on the amp. Does your amp not have a port for such a foot switch?

lol I was going to point that out as well.

As for the OP: Sucks about your FX pedals and I suggest getting a stompbox like a boss or digi-tech because the way I see it is that I could spend $50-$200 on one or two FX or I can spend a few hundred and have a stompbox with every effect I could ever want. I have a digi-tech GNX4 and I like it better than worrying about 9v batteries and wires running everywhere.

Hope you get your shit fixed in time.

Yeah, my amp has a port for it, but the guy I bought it off of is an asshole independent music store, and only sells what he doesn't want. I was uneducated at the time, and now I'm kicking myself in the ass because of it.

And woogie, I guess I'm just a little skeptical about stomp-boxes, floor pods, etc. I dunno, can you model each effect to give you the sound you want exactly, or are they predetermined? That's what I love about my pedals, is I can mold each effect exactly how I want it to blend with the other effects, and the sound my amp feeds.

I can only speak for my GNX4 but every effect is customizable and can be saved on a flash drive (not included). The only problem I have with the thing is that I'm a bit of a retard when it comes to gadgets and even though I had the box for a few years now I finally figured out how to utilize it's 8 track digital recorder. Other than it needing some time to figure out I have had no problems with it's performance.

could you maybe find said foot switch on ebay? I can't imagine it would be too expensive.

As far as other effects, I'm just getting into this whole music thing, and effects aren't nearly as important on a bass, so I have no real advice for you. but I've seen some of these effects stations that woogie was talking about, and some of them are pretty nifty. You can get almost any sound you want out of them. You can also get ALOT of sounds that you wouldn't ever want out of them. So if you're looking for a specific sound, getting such a thing would be overkill. It might be more economical to just replace the pedals that died on you.

Well, this is an idea, but not one ideal to me. My DF-7 offers me distortion that will rip your face off, and now that I've reverted to my stock amp distortion, it sounds like I'm playing on a bullshit 10 watt amp. I mean, it's just not metal enough, to put it in ridiculous words.

Don't get me wrong, I have covers that call for a clean, slightly flanged interlude, and I enjoy playing slower, clean music from time to time. But my heavier stuff calls for a heavier sound.

What kind of amp/guitar set up do you have? IMO don't just go buy another pedal unless you really need it. The DF-7 is great and all but for 50 bucks more you can get the Line 6 Floor Pod, which offers up MUCH MUCH more and sounds WAY better, especially with a good amp/guitar set up. Check out the models and effects it gives. It's easy to tweek to your liking too.

If you want a real solid warm metal tone that won't make your listeners rip their own ears off, you should definitely save up and buy yourself a nice tube amp. They're starting to get real cheap nowadays, even cheaper on shit like craigslist or ebay.

The distortion factory quiting probably will help you tone. I hate those things. As for the phaser, that really sucks. Try Daddys.com They have used pedals for around $15-$30.
