Dear all,
I've recently inherited a Samick Valley Arts Custom guitar... It's basically a copy of a fat strat with a tremelo locking system.
I've tried to play it through my amp but to no avail. A few occasional clicks, sometimes a note can be heard whilst jiggling the jack. It has a 5-way selector switch, and the same problem occurs irrespective of the selection on the switch.
I've taken of the pickguard and all wires are in place. I don't want to take the guitar to my local music shop because the cost of repair will probably exceed the value of the guitar.
If anyone has some knowledge of this, then that would be great...
My line of thinking so far is that it's not a wiring issue, because all wires are in place. Also I don't think it's a faulty pickup because the same problem occurs irrespective of the 5-way selector switch. That basically leaves the 2 pots (1x volume, 1 x tone) and the selector switch...
I'd really like to diagnose the problem, so that I can start looking at a solution... I have access to a voltmeter, I read somewhere that you can test the pots with a voltmeter, is this correct? Any other tips on diagnosing, and possibly fixing the electronics on this guitar will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
