Guin Saga

What is Guin Saga?
Guin Saga was originally a book series created by Kaoru Kurimoto back in 1979 and is a still on-going collection of novels currently spanning 128 volumes. Now in April '09, this series will be adapted into an anime. Although the anime will only span the first few volumes of the novels, this should be a fun ride. A manga was also adapted.

Guin Saga follows the story of one kick ass mother known as Guin, he dons a leopard mask that hides his face ala King from Tekken.

If you haven't read the manga or the novels, I heavily suggest you at least pick up book 1 and 2 which will probably be the basis for the entire series.

Why is this significant?
Well a lot of you out there enjoy a completely bad ass series called Berserk, in an interview, Berserk manga creator Kentaro Miura has stated that Guin Saga was a heavy influence on his work. Aside from that, this series has completely detailed fighting and action sequences, and a great story of conquest, domination, murder and betrayal.

Who will be involved with this project?
At first I was a little disappointed to hear that a brand new director will helm the project [Atsushi Wakabayashi]. However all you action fans should recognize studio Satelight (Macross frontier fame), as they will be doing all the animation and studio Easter will be doing all the background art (which i might add is very detailed, weirdly reminiscent of early Dragonball). Also, to many a fanboy's satisfaction, Nobuo Uematsu will be scoring the entire soundtrack which is a first in his long career as a video game composer.

I saw the first 10 minutes of the very first episode for Guin Saga but haven't had a chance to watch it beyond that as of yet! I plan on watching all of the eps so far soon..but Im wondering....is this filled with fantasy adventure because I crave fantasy in my anime. It's been a long time coming since a good fantasy epic has come out.

I love fantasy type anime. In fact, it's my favorite genre! Guin Saga is supposed to be a fantasy epic based on a series of books that came out many decades ago. The trailer looks promising so I'm crossing my fingers on this one.

I'll probably get to see the first ep tonight sometime.

Seriously......this looks really promising.

Yeah the fantasy adventure is pretty strong is Guin, only 6 episodes out so far, but I'm sure it's only going to get better, it's been awesome so far.

I agree. At first I had some doubts about the character designs, but after seeing the trailer and first episode for myself, I just know I should be following this.

When was the last time a proper fantasy epic came out as anime? Back in the 80s with the Lodoss OVA?

Episode 7 saw the begining of the battle between the Sems and Amnelis and her troops, Guin is very smart and tactical and managed to draw them into a trick by basically erabarrassing Amnelis and making her look stupid in front of the men, in a rage she ordered her troops to flush them out and kill them all, they went down narrow strips of land with mountains on each side, but got caught out by a creature of Nosferatu which engulfed the paths leaving the troops with no where to go, not quite sure what that creature was but it seemed like the Sems called it out with some kind of whistle.

I think I'm the only one still watching this awesome series, in episode 8 Guin decided to go on a journey to find some kind of giants who he hoped may help him and the Sem in battle, not sure what happened on his journey and if it was an illusion or not, but he found a coin with his Leopard head on one side and a human head on the other which possibly indicates to him being a king.
He was later guided by a wolf king to where he wanted to go, he found some kind of crystal and was caught off guard right at the end by someone holding a spear to his head.

If he was my little brother I would of slapped him by now, just soooo annoying how he wines every two seconRAB, it was however a nice first episode.

This show is awesome, the last two episodes were pretty epic, episode 9 saw Guin have to fight one of the Lagon to prove he was worthy, he did well at first but then his opponent got him in a bear hug and when it looked like it was all over the crystal which he found earlier came out of his hand and lit the whole area up, the Lagon said this was their god and decided they would follow Guin.
Episode 10 saw the Mogaul finding the Sems hideout and launching a surprise attack, they were out nurabered and in serious trouble before Guin along with the Lagon turned up and owned them all, Guin looked awesome standing on the dog head mountain in his black gear.

Episode 01 well..."oh no the coordinates are off!" was pretty f'ing lame. Other than that though it seems like not a bad start. I thought it was cool when Guin hit that soldier and his helmet started the tree on fire, although it would have scorched Remus' hanRAB when he touched it. Guin does seem like the character of Armor King from Tekken. ED is goooood!

lol agree pretty wicked first episode, really nice. I am expecting great things from Guin Saga, and yes the "opps the coordinates are off" as the foundation of the entire journey was pretty lame xD

i made a screencap of that into my new desktop wallpaper. I can't wait to see how this enRAB. i just hope Guin doesn't die.
