Guys, thx a million for this guide and F480XXHF7! I am a lot more satisfied with my phone now. I came from F480XXHE7 and first was in doubt to take the risk to flash. But I am happy I just did. Performance is better, UI, browsing through photos, is just all a bit faster. But also the what bothered me the most was the crappy quality u got when u just made a photo, that problem is gone now! So cheers!

ps: for the guys who get the COM error in the bootloader, dont forget to first shut down you Samsung software before trying to flash!

I don't know what to say. I run option '2' without problems and, as I said, now it seems to take better pictures. My current version (option '3') is 0x1f4d8723, no idea what was the version previously to run option '2' but I am afraid it was the same.

Try to got to Samsung support, just say camera left working , it would be nice to know what they do with a reflashed F480

I took the plunge and updated to XXHF7 as well, all working fine apart from one thing. I took about 18 pics with the phone yesterday and when i try to copy/cut and paste within PC Studio (From phone memory to my Pics on the PC) the handset regularly errors part way through and i need to reboot the PC/phone before PC Studio will see it again. If i do them in smaller batches it works fine but all 18 never completes.

Anyone able to test this also? (Use the maximum resoluiton for pics)

Hi,

After searching for ages on google, I still can't seem to find a decent tutorial on how to flash my F480. However I've had bits of help from various people and I've put this little guide together. Worked a treat with my phone. Having said that after trying this guide I accept absolutely no responsibility for your phone being dmaaged or 'bricked' in anyway.

Here's what I did:

Downloading the software:

First off you need to download the firmware you want and then Multiloader V5.33 which is the program you're going to be using to flash your phone.

Make sure you remmeber where you've put these files as you'll need to browse to them when using multiloader.

Preparing your phone:

I am assuming here that you've already installed Samsung PC Studio and it works fine with your supplied USB cable.

NOTE: Flashing your phone will delete all your contacts, calender, settings ringtones etc.

You probably want to back up all your files and contacts. I recommend syncing your contacts etc. with Samsung PC Studio and copying over your files on your phone to your memory card or PC (your memory card will not be touched).

Once that's done remove any memory card you may have and then remove the SIM card. Put you battery back in. Your phone shoul be off at this point. Hold down the 'Volume down' key (The bottom rocker button on the left side of your phone) and the camera button and press the power on button. Your phone should start up into a wierd screen with downloader v.5.32 or something and some boxes. It's now ready to be flashed.

Using Multiloader:

Open multiloader. It should look something like this without all the settings selected (The middle section should be blank!):

Ok, Morpheus originally selected the wrong option in the top box, you should select the second option from the top (MSM6275/MSM6280).

Then press the AMSS button on the left side and browse to the firmware files you want to flash (unzip/rar them as necessary). Go to the binary folder and then select amss_compressed. Do the same for Rsrc1,Rsrc2 and FSS selecting the appropiate files as shown in the above pic.

You should now be ready to flash. Connect your phone to your comp and then click download in multiloader. AT THIS POINT DO NOT TOUCH YOUR PHONE/DETATCH THE CABLE/SWITCH OFF YOUR COMP. Your phone should have a status indicator with percentages and this should be reflected in multiloader. The process should tkae about 5 minutes thgouh I'm not sure about that. Once it's done your phone will restart twice by itself. Once this is done it should start up as normal into the widgets page. It's now complete.

Congratulations on flashing your phone. You can now repalce your SIM and Memory card and set up your phone the way you like it.

Hope this helped.

Feel free to steal this tutorial/post it on another website etc., I made it in a few minutes and couldn't care less if you take credit for it.

loc mate i'd just wait whoever said there isn't one coming out is by the sounds of it wrong. the people there said they would ring me personally when the firmware came out and that i would be able to download myself. just going on what they said ring them yourself.

all you have to do is wait two weeks. i presume they are doing it now as they hav e had so many problems with the tocco.
stupid f******* phone

Well, that firmware is just related to the camera module itself - I think main sw also weighs on image processing.

With Omnia that code doesn't work.

it might be they have changed something

in z400 you use pwr on/off key + 9

so you have to try all the combinations, i have never heard of that trick but it might be the company [your carrier/provider] wanted to have that changed in their model, anyways there must be a way to enter into flashing mode

power off the phone then try all the combinations

using

pwr on/off [red one] + camera + vol up
pwr on/off [red one] + camera + joystick
pwr on/off [red one] + etc..

at least there aren't many keys to try

if you have the official hong kong model, samsung will only update to the latest f/w F488ZHHG1 for you, and this f/w wil not have spanish language.

On the orginal post, should there be a picture there or something, i can see an icon box but cant see the image?!

Hi,

Nice guide and links to file.

Just got the F480 and flashed it to the latest June firmware but noticed (from flashing a G800 which ending up having a dodgy screen...well a couple of them did!) that it was recommended to use the (LOW).rc2 file and not the (MID) one.

Used LOW on mine but what's the difference??

Thanks

I downloaded Bejeweled and SimCity.
I can play them fine, but the arrows at the bottom of the screen is annoying

Hi guys,

Not sure where you all are based but I keep my Tocco in this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NP01-Mobile-Case-For-SAMSUNG-Soul-U900-J700-G600-F480_W0QQitemZ310072861934QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item310072861934&_trkparms=72%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1318

Taken the back plastic covers off (where two weird dots in the laquer on mine from new anyway) but haven't dared remove the front one yet. It's peeling so will have to come off soon enough.

Not had it two weeks yet.

Can anyone remember how to change the homepage set in the browser?
I managed to do it once before, but have now completely forgotten and am stuck with a useless T-Mobile homepage.

I do remember that it was in one of the settings pages (the ones you can only access with the "secret" Samsung codes)

What is classed a sa Samsung service centre?

Did you just ask them to flash it to latest firmware for you? or did you say there was a fault?

was it free to do? how long did it take? Im in UK btw tho

What about extra widgets? can you alter the shortcuts to what you want from middle hard key now?

Can you play a video and see if the title still stays on the screen when its playing
