I don't make much fuss about it because like I said I use another guide but BEV's guide has a lot of problems. Don't bother ever using NEW because you will miss A LOT of episodes. When you start using the PVR and recording hundreds of shows a month you start to depend on the PVR to do what you have told it to do. I have found VU pass works very good for me and that's what I use but it requires some time every few days to skip all shows which are duplicate.

I'm embarrased to admit it, but the same problem is with Judge Judy @ 7pm
The 7pm show, in the guide, is actually on at 7:30pm, and vice versa for the 7:30pm show
 
I for one am positive that a better guide data service or data provider exists. One needs to look no further than TiVo for the way it should be done
 
I don't know how good Cogeco's guide is overall, but again, it is giving ACCURATE descriptions for TV shows, instead of N/A for original airdate, and N/A for info........
I just got off the phone with a friend, and had him check a few shows for me that ExpressVu had N/A in the listings for, but Cogeco had info for?
Maybe someone at ExpressVU could call someone at Cogeco, and get their EPG providers contact info?

Why can't Bell use the same provider that Q is using?
I have seen many errors in the EPG, dates, spelling, or just N/A, when the info for the same show, is available on another provider
I think thats a bit of a hyperbole to say that 1000 people would be needed to have accurate guide info, as I doubt that BTV (Never heard of them) have that many employees to have an accurate guide
For those that don't have PVR's, this doesn't seem like a big deal, but to PVR owners, it can be quite annoying
 
The EPG is getting worse. Take a look at BBC Canada as an example - how helpful is a program entry "Movie" or "BBC Dramas"(with no information!). Not only that, there are several incorrect listings. Or take a look at I like to see what's on PBS Great Performances, accordin g to the guide. I like to record those that are of interest - but all the guide gives is a generic description along the lines of "a selection of arts and drama performances". They make a PVR pretty well useless.

We have just had a fee increase (mine is $5). BEV should use some of it to provide accurate EPG information. It is part of the service we pay for.
 
All data supplier rely on the initial source to provide accurate data. So if NBC gives inaccurate data to the data supplier who then sells it to ExpressVu, it is going to be wrong regardless of who Bell buys the data from.

THe only way to ensure accuracy is to review EVERY listing and confirm with an independent source and YES that would take a thousand folks every week because they would have to confirm with the source.
 
There is something wrong when BEV has most of its guide inaccurate and BTV (Beyond TV by snapstream) and Sage TV have a near perfect guide. Since I got Beyond TV I have never seen any errors.

I have no idea how many people have bought BTV but I would be very surprised if it was over 1/4 million. I would put Sage at about the same or more.

How do they do it?

Dish has different data. Why is dish's guide more accurate?

I don't buy the "well they sent it to me that way?"
 
Yes Hugh I would gladly pay an addition $50 a year for correct guide data, and I do in the form of having a TiVo with the "other" provider for which I pay $4.99 month.

This is not the first time there has been a guide data error nor do I suspect it will be the last. It's kinda hard for me to explain to my wife why one dvr is almost always right (maybe a few errors in 5+ years) versus her having to check our 9200 on a regular basis.

All in all I have been happy with the performance of my 9200 since I have not experienced many of the problems that other people have. It is just very frustrating that Bell Expressvu themselves can't get it right or insist their provider of data get it right. I know it can be done.

In closing I never said the CRTC has to be notified...I asked who I should complain to. I will send a email of to Bell Expressvu suggesting that perhaps they can do a better job.
 
I feel the same way you do Q, as I have seen other provider guide info that was correct, while ExpressVu's was not
If there are so many errors, or N/A's (Come on, not available for info in 2008?) why not give the $$$ to another company that can provide better, more accurate info
If the hard drive was a little bigger, I wouldn't mind, but when the drive is full of every show that the Mrs wants to watch, because she is recording every show, due to the "N/A" for the show info, it can be frustrating
 
I agree with you 100%.

I have been told that the Data comes from an outside source and that Bell are not to blame but I cannot believe this at all.

Who adds the "available in HD on Channel #**".?
Who adds the "Call 1 866 68ORDER" and the Event ID to the PPV's.?

There is a new series starting next week and in the Guide it says Episode #3, how is this possible.?
 
Listing premiere episodes as #2 or #3 is really common in the Bell guide for some reason.
 
I hate the program guide, absolutely loathe it!
for the amount of money i am paying each month, the program guide should be second to none.
it has been this way for years, and i have sent numerous e-mails to them about this, and the same response each time. "we will forward your email on to the appropriate division.
at least StarChoice has a colour grid you can use, and is much easier to read.
the one Bell has is just god awful and boring...blue...that's it for over 500 channels
C'mon Bell TV...you just made a price increase...how about using that money to update the guide....PLEASE!!
 
I must assume that you are joking since I have seen Rogers and SC guides , Bells guide is way better and I love it.
 
I'd like to add to the EPG data problems. So far, I've had 2 problems:

One is with Saturday Night Live. The show would usually be simsub between NBC and Global channels, but one of the two would have an accurate end time (I can't remember which one is accurate). Anyway, it's been twice now that I recorded an episode where the last few minutes get cut-off even though I have my 9242 preset to record an extra 2 minutes (beginning and end). The problem is that the guide would show that SNL ends at 1:00am when it usually ends around 1:05am. This really ticked me off when I was watching the last musical performance (Jason Mraz w/ Steve Martin as host) and the recording didn't record until the end. :(

The other incident happened yesterday with Gossip Girl (GG). I don't watch the show, but my sister does. She comes home expecting to see it in HD, but it wasn't recorded. I've set my 9242 to record it from WGNHD and just the new episodes. But looking at the PVR schedule, the 9242 didn't even skip GG; it just wasn't scheduled at all to record. I thought maybe I deleted the timer for GG, but no, the timer still existed. My only guess is that the EPG data wasn't accurate.

Quite frankly, I expect the EPG to be accurate if I expect my PVR to do its job properly. It's just too much hassle to make sure that the start and end times of my timers are going to be accurate for the coming week since there are quite a few to check over. That beats the purpose of convenience.
